Description

EDWARD J WILLCOX, on IVY MILLS, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN FOLDING CHICKEN-COOPS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 120,921, dated November 14, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD J. WILLOOX, of Ivy Mills, in the county of Delaware and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain Improvements in Folding Chicken-Coops, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in which-- Figure l is a side view of my improved coop. Fig. 2 is a front .view of the same. Fig. 3 is a side view of the same folded. Fig. 4. is a detail section of the same taken through the line no 00, Fig. 3.
Similar letters of referenceindicate corresponding parts.
My invention has for its object to furnish an improved chicken-coop, simple in construction and convenient in use, and which may be readt ily and conveniently folded for storage or transportation; and it consists in the construction and combination of the various parts, as hereinafter more fully described.
A are the inclined bars, which are connected and held in their proper relative positions by cross-bars B, and to which the roof or cover 0 is attached. To the bars A, near the upper end, are pivoted the upper ends of two bars, D. The outer sides of the bars D are rabbeted along their inner edges, as shown in Figs. 1 and 4, so that when folded they may partly overlap the inner sides of the bars A. To the outer sides of the upper ends of the bars D is attached a board, E,
the ends of which project to rest against the inclined ends of the bars A. The edge of the board E, the edge of the ends of the bars D, and of the shoulders of the said barsD, are beveled off, so that the front of the coop may be firmly supported when in a vertical position. To the bars D are attached three or more cross-bars, F, at such a distance apart that the inclosed fowls cannot escape between them. G are the side bars of the coop, which are slid in through the keepers H attached to the outer sides of the bars D, and their ends'are inserted in mortises in the edges of the inclined bars A. The bars G are kept in place by spring-catches I attached to the outer side of the said bars G, so as, when the bars G are slid into place, to spring out, and, by resting against the keepers H, to prevent the said bars G from getting out of place.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent The combination of the bars A B, roof or cover 0, pivoted bars 1), board E, cross-bars F, side bars G, keepers H, and spring-catches I with each other, said parts being constructed and operating substantially as herein shown and described, and for the purpose set forth.
The above specification of my invention signed by me this 30th day of September, 1871.
EDWARD J WILLOOX.
