PURMORT BRADFORD.
Improvement in Blower Stands.
NO. 119,500, Patented Oct. 3, 1871.

PURMOBT BRADFORD, on NEW HAVEN, oonnnorrour, ASSIGNOR TO SARGENT & 00., OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN BLOWER-STANDS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 119,500, dated October 3, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PURMoRT BRADFORD, of the city and county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Blower-Stand; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description, and which said drawing constitutes part of this specification, and represents, in
Figure 1, a front view 5 Fig.2, a side View; Fig. 3, a section online .10 m; Fig. 4, a section on line 3 3 and in Fig. 5 a perspective view of the parts as packed for transportation.
This invention relates to an improvement in the construction of the device known as blowerstand-that is, a device to support the blower of a fire-grate when not in use; the object being to so construct the parts that they may be easily separated and packed into a compact form for transportation, as heretofore the parts were inseparable, and in packing each stand makes a bulky package, liable to be broken and expensive to transport.
The two sides A B are made of substantially the same form, by preference exactly alike, so that one pattern may be used for both parts, and so that when laid together, (one being reversed,) as seen in Fig. 5, one will lie close down upon the other 5 yet, if desired, there may be no inconsiderable difference in the two and yet accomplish the object. Between the two sides a plate, G, is arranged which governs the relative positions of the sides to each other. This plate may be connected or constructed so as to retain its position by lugs or otherwise but I prefer to form a transverse screw near each end, so as to set over the bolts or screws at. These bolts or screws should be used in any case. The two sides are set up and the screws inserted; but before the screws are turned hard down the plate 0 is laid in onto the screws, as seen in Figs. 3 and 4:, then the screws driven home, binding the two sides and plate firmly together, and the whole is ready for use.
To pack as for transportation, remove the plate and screws and lay the parts together, as in Fig. 5, and a package is found little thicker than the two sides.
By this construction the parts when ready for use are as securely held together as when riveted in the usual manner, and without the liability to become loosened, as in case of rivets; or, if loosened, they may be easily brought to bearing again. And further, by this construction six stands can be packed into the compass of a single stand of common construction.
I claim- A blower-stand, consisting of the two sides A B and the plate (J, secured together and made detachable, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
