' a citi'zen'of the United States, residing at Newburgh, in the county of Orange and State of New York, have invented a certaln new and useful Improvement in Overalls for Women, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

Women are entering more fully than ever before into those occupations where their common and conventional-garb isv a hindrance or handicap in regard to their comfort, safety and efliciency. Their skirts especially hamper them in work in the garden, on the farm, and with machinery, and so far as I am aware, they have nothing which would furnish them the comfort and protection which are afforded to men by overalls.

It isv believed that o veralls for Women should be of such character and construc 'tion as to enable them to discard all outer garments, such as skirts, petticoats and the like, and excepting a shirtwaist or like body covering, and yet as fullyprotect their persons from exposure and from soiling incident to the given occupation, and allow per feet freedom of the limbs and body in pursuing such occupation; and it is the object of this invention toprovide such a garment.

The invention consists of a two-legged ar- I' ment, fashioned .to t the waist and to a ,ord

abundant room for the seathips, and thighs, open at the sides from the waist partway down the legs, closed in the crotch, and finished at the bottdms so as to be capable of being closed about the wearers ankles or boot tops or gathered up and fastened under the knees after the manner of knickerbockers,

the material \of the legs falling down over` the fastening and producing a sklrt effect,

and preferably provided with a bib and 'shoulder straps, as I will proceed now to explain and finally claim.

In the accompanying drawings, in the several gures of which hke parts are similarly designated, Figure 1 is a front elevation of one embodiment of the invention, and Fig. 2

is a rear 'elevation thereof. Fig. 3 is a side elevation 'showing the garment distended approximately as it will bein use. Fig. 4 is a cross section substantially on line A-B of Fig. 3, on a larger scale to show the upper plaits. Fig. 5 is a front elevation of the upper part of a garment, showing a detachable bib. Fi 6 is a front elevation of the upper art o a garment showing a modification o the'bib construction. Fig. 7 is a front elevation showing a bibless garment in part.

The garment comprises the two substantially identical leg portions 1, made very full, and secured at the top .to a sectional waistband, 2, 3, the fullness of the legs being reduced at the waist first by proper fashioning of the pattern, and nextby plaiting the goods in front, as at 4, preferably using an inverted plait, and at. the hi s, as at 5 and 6, and at the back, as at 7, uslng here also by preference an invertedvplait. The legs Aare permanently closed in the crotch, both front and back, bya suitable seam or fell 8, sol as to afford the fullest possible protection of the person from exposure. lThe sides are rovrded with openings9and 10 extending rom the waistband downwardly along the hips toward the. knees, and these openings are provided with flies 11 and suitable fasten- Aings, such as buttons and buttonholes 12 and 13, by which they may be secured, and sothat the back of the garment may be let down as'required, or the whole garment may be slipped down. The bottoms of the legs are vprovided with the box plaits 14 and 15 at front and back, and plaits 16 and 17 on opposite sides of outside side openings 18. Bands 19 are placed at these bottoms into which the plaits are secured. These bands are provided -with any suitable means to adjust or fasten the bottoms about the'wearerrs legs, such as buttonhole tabs 2O and buttons 21. Thus the legs may be made very full from top to bottom, so as to insure a loose, baggy and comfortable fit, permitting perfect freedom of movement of the wearers body and legs. As shown in full lines Fig. 3, the bottoms may extend to the wearers shoe tops or ankles, and also, as indicated by dotted lines in the 'same view, the legs may be gathered up and the bands fastened beneath the wearers knees, especially when high boots are worn, or the exposure of the lower limbs is immaterial or desirable,- `and producing a skirt effect or appearance. One
