To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, MARK W. THOMPSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Vassar, in the county of Tuscola and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sackllolders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the in vention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it apperta-ins to make and use the same.

This invention relates to new and useful improvements in sack holders and the principal object of the invention is to provide a sack holder adapted for holding the mouths of sacks open for filling and suspending the sack in position ready for use.

Another object of the invention is to provide a sack holder having a suitable bracket for supporting the same in a horizontal position so as to form a funnel and hold the sack suspended.

A still further object of the invention is to provide a novel means for supporting the sack holder on a suitable stationary support which means is provided at its lower terminal with a suitable hook on which the sack is hung.

Still another object of the invention is to provide a device which may be easily and cheaply constructed of sheet metal and which may be readily attached and detached to the support.

With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts which will be fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings, in wh1ch: I

Fi ure 1 is an end view in elevation of a sack holder constructed in accordance with this invention. Fig. 2 is a view of the rear side thereof illustrating the bracket used in connection with the device, and Fig. 3 is a bottom plan view of the sack holder.

Referring to the drawing the numeral designates as an entirety the main body of the device comprising a hollow inverted frusto pyramidical casing, the lower end of which is provided with the spout 3. This spout 3 is rectangular in form and is formed at the reduced end of the inverted frusto pyramidical body 2. "The rear wall A of said body is formed at its upper edge with an outwardly extending horizontal flange 5, the upper face of which is in the same plane with the upper edges of the side and front walls of the body as clearly shown in Fig. 1. Secured to the front wall at the point where it joins the front wall of the spout is a suitable hook 6 comprising a base plate 7 having a downward extension 8 formed thereon which extension 8 isprovided with the upwardly turned point 9 as clearly shown in Figs. 1 and 3. The brackets used in connection with the device are designated generally by the numeral 10 and each of said brackets comprises'the vertical leg 11 having formed at its lower-terminal the horizontal leg 12. A suitable outwardly extending flange or arm 13 is formed at the upper terminal of the vertical leg 11 and terminates at its outer edge in the downturned retaining flange 14 which is adapted to engage the rear side of a support. A suitable angularly extending attaching portion 15 is formed at the forward end of the horizontal leg 12 of each bracket 10 and this attaching portion terminates in a suitable depending extension 16 having the upwardly and outwardly turned hook 17 formed thereon. This hook 17 is formed as are the hooks 9 and is adapted to cooperate therewith in supporting the bag in place.

It will be apparent from the foregoing that in use the device is supported on a suitable support designated by the numeral 18 which by the engagement of the vertical leg 11 of the brackets 10 together with the downturned flanges 14 at the upper ends of said legs support the device in a horizontal position. It will be seen that upon hanging a. bag on the hooks 9 and 17, the mouth thereof will be held open and the contents thrown into the hopper or body 2 will pass into the bag thereby filling the same. It will also be seen that the brackets 10 will hold the bag holder against sagging as the horizontal arm 12 thereof prevents the possibility of the outer end of the bag holder moving downwardly under the weight of the contents thereof and the contents of the bag.

While in the foregoing there has been shown and described the preferred embodiment of this invention, it is to be understood" that such changes may be made in the combination and arrangement of parts as will fall within the spirit and scope of the appended claim.

What is claimed is A bag holder comprising a hollow inverted frusto-pyramidal body, a spout at the lower end thereof, an outwardly extending flange formed on the upper edge of the rear wall of said body, brackets comprising vertical arms, horizontal arms in the upper end of the vertical arms, means for. securing the horizontal arms to the under sides of the flange, a downturned flange on the rear end of the horizontal arms, said flange engaging a support for holding the body 1n a horizontal position, horizontal brace arms at the lower terminals of the vertical arms of the brackets, and attaching elements at the forward end of the brace arms, means securing the attaching elements to the body, a depending portion at the lower end of the attaching e1ements,'said depending portions terminating into hooks adapted to support a bag around the spout of the body, said vertical arms of the brackets forming a sup- Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing The Commissioner of Patents.
