To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ALEXANDER D. CURRY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hawkinsville, in the county of Pulaski and State of Georgia, have invented new and useful Improvements in Soap-Holders, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to lavatory apparatus and more particularly to combined soap holders and waste valves.

One of the principal objects of the invention is to provide a simple and ellicient waste valve which may be cheaply constructed and installed and which will effectively take the place of the usual chain and stopper.

Another object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character having a novel type of soap holder carried directly by the waste valve in such a manner that it may be moved into convenient position or I out of the way when not in use and which obviates the waste of soap which occurs when the cake becomes small with the usual type of soap containers.

Further objects of the invention will appear as the following specific description is read in connection with the accompanying d z'awings which form a part of this application and in which Figure 1 is a front elevation, Fig. 2 is a side elevation showing the manner of using the valve with an ordinary lavatory bowl. Fig. 3 is a detail horizontal section showing the soap container in top plan view.

Referring more particularly to the drawings 1 represents a wall plate of a lavatory bowl to which is secured a soap or brush holder 2 of any preferred design having the vertical sleeve 3 formed thereon to receive the valve rod 4:. This valve rod is constructed of a single piece of material preferably in the form of heavy wire and at its upper end is bent laterally to produce a crank 5 to which is connected the handle 6. After passing through the sleeve 3 the rod 4. has a portion thereof between its ends ar- 'anged at right angles to the portion of the rod which passes through the sleeve 3, the lower portion of the rod is bent downwardly and is curved to correspond to the curvature of the lavatory bowl and has secured to the end thereof a suitable valve 9 arranged to engage in the waste opening 10 of the lava-- tory bowl 11. The valve rod is of course, slidably and rotatably mounted in the Specification of Letters Patent.

sleeve so that it may be raised and lowered and turned to remove the valve from the waste opening or place the same therein as is desired, -the rod being manipulated from the handle at the end of the crank with the bent portion between the ends of the rod serving to limit the sliding movement of the rod within the sleeve 3.

Mounted upon the portion 8 a suitable distance above the valve is a collar 12 which supports a. bag holding frame 13 which is constructed of a single strand of spring wire or similar material wound around the portion 8 and having diverging legs providcd at their extremities with twisted eyes 14 arranged to interengage to hold the legs in closed position. Attached to the opposite legs of the frame is a fabric bag 15 open for a predetermined distance at one side thereof so as to facilitate the sliding of the legs for the insertion of a cake of soap in the bag. As will be seen from an inspection of Fig. 3 the frame 13 is rotatably mounted upon the portion 8 of the valve rod so that the holder may be placed in convenient position for use or drawn to an out-of-the-way position when desired. The bag will, of course, hang above or just in the water within the bowl depending upon the level thereof and is always in a convenient position when the stopper or valve is in the Waste opening.

The holder 2 may be used for additional cakes of soap or may be constructed as shown, to hold dental brushes and with the notches for the reception of tooth brushes, or it may be constructed in any other suitable manner' if provided with the bearing sleeve for the reciprocation and rotation of the valve rod. This part may therefore be considered for all purposes a holding bracket.

lVhat is claimed is 1. The combination with a wash basin having a waste opening therein, of means for closing said opening including a valve rod, a soap holder having a side adapted to be rigidly connected with the wash basin" and provided with a vertically extending sleeve in which said valve rod is mounted to turn and slide, and a. shoulder between the ends of the valve rod adapted to contact with the soap holder and limit the sliding movement of the valve rod in one direction.
