Description

May 5', 1931. c. H. M CONNELL I01" CLEAN ING RECEPTACLE Filed NOV. 16, 1928 lNVENTQR H: fifc oun all ATTORNEY Patented May 5, 1931 PATENT OFFICE CORA H. MCCONNELL, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
MOP-CLEANING BECEPTACLE Application filed November 16, 1928. Serial No. 319,869.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in mop cleaning receptacles and has for its object to provide a device, that will prove very efiicient, be easy to oper- I ate, and on account of its simpiicity of construction may be manufactured at an insignificant cost.
It has been a further object to build the said device in such a manner that the latter may be handled and manipulated with the greatest ease, thereby assuring to the housewife the proper use of the said cleaner even by the most retarding female servant.
With the above and other objects in view,
this invention consists of the novel features of construction, combination and arrangements of parts, hereinafter fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings forming parts of this specification, and in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all views, and in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my device, with a part broken away for the purpose of showing a detail illustration; Fig. 2 discloses a central vertical sectional view through Fig. 1; while. |Fig. 3 represents merely a detail view.
In Figure 1, the numeral 20 indicates a substantially cylindrical receptacle made from a preferably rigid material, for instance, thin sheet metal; the said receptacle is at its top and bottom edges provided with reinforcements or rings, 21 and 22, respectively. Inside the said receptacle is mounted a hopper 23 made also of a preferably rigid material; a small opening is provided at one side of the said hopper to permit the up and downward movement of a rod 24 as shown in Fig. 1. The lower end of said rod engages a lever 25, which in turn is secured to an axle 26, the latter projecting through an aperture in the said receptacle and upon the outside pivotally engaging a lug 27 and another lever 28 terminating in a pedal 29. The said rod 24, which is guided in its movement by means of a supporting member 30, is at its top connected to a push-member 31 comprising a substantially oval shaped ring, which in turn has for its function to open the lid members 32, 32 of the said receptacle. The said lid members are hingedly connected to the receptacle as shown at 33 and. have each at their center disposed a' semi circular recess 34 for receiving the handle of the mop; around the edges of the said recesses are mounted rubber buffers 35 in order to secure a compact and tight fitting of the said lid members onto the said mop handle. Upon one side of the said receptacle, as shown in Fig. 2 is a lever system, comprising a pedal 36, and a rod 37, an arm 38, the said arm being pivotally connected as at 39 in the side of the said receptacle and projecting inside thereof. To the inner end of the said arm is rigidly attached a foraminated member 40 adapted by means of the said lever system and during the operation of the latter, to strike repeatedly against the mop shreds and thereby affecting a cleaningprocess of the said mop.
To facilitate the removal of dirt and dust in this form of device, the latter is constructed with a somewhat downwardly tapered bottom 41 provided at its center with an opening 42 serving as an outlet for the accumulated refuse. The said opening is in turn closed by a cap 43 screwed onto a projecting, neck-portion 44. 7
It is obvious that changes may be made in the form, construction and arrangement of the several parts, as shown, within the scope of the appended claim, without departing from the spirit of the invention, and I do not therefore limit myself to the construction and arrangement shown and described herein.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is
A mop cleaning device consisting of a substantially cylindrical container, a lid on top of the container, the said lid comprising two hinged semi-circular members each provided with a semi-circular cent-er recess cooperating to receive a cylindrical mop handle, the latter being tightly held by means of rubber jaws fixed upon the edges of the aforesaid center recesses, a foraminated member disposed in a.horizontal position substantially in the middle of the receptacle for striking the shreds of a mop carried by the handle; the said foraminated member being carried by a lever-arm pivoted to and projecting outside the container and pivotally engaging a. rod outside the container, said rod being pivtally connected to a lever at the bottom of and outside the said receptacle, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
Signed at New York city, in the county of New York and State of New York, this 8th of November, A. D. 1928.
