To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ARTHUR R. CnoULEs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Dallas, in the county of Dallas, State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Brackets for Window Shades; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to new and useful improvements in brackets for holding window shades or curtains.

It is the object of the present invention to provide such brackets adapted for holding both window shades and curtain rods and which may be readily attached to a window frame without the use of any auxiliary securing means such as screws or the like, and which may be attached without in any manner marring the window frame.

It is further the object to provide novel means for holding the curtain rods.

With the above and other objects and advantages in view, the invention resides more particularly in the novel combination, formation and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.

Reference is had to the accompanying drawing wherein similar characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout theseveral views, and in which:

Figure 1 is an elevational view of the upper portion of a window frame, showing the improved brackets attached thereto. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the frame as shown in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a detail sectional view on the line 33 of Fig. 1. Fig. 4: is a perspective view of one of the brackets.

Referring now more particularly to the accompanying drawings, a window frame is shown comprising the usual transverse top sill 5 which is secured to the walland which generally has a slight clearance with relation thereto. The brackets comprising the improved holder are each alike with the exception that the projecting arm 5 of one carries a slot 6 for receiving the spring end of a window shade roller and the arm 7 of the other is provided with a circular opening 8 for receiving the other end of the roller. The body portion of each bracket comprises a U shaped strip of metal having one of its arms 9 adapted to engage or hook over the top sill of the window and having its other arm 10 adapted to lie on the outer face of the sill and extended beyond the other arm to provide a bearing thereagainst. Each of the projecting arms of the bracket has its inner end laterally turned at 11 whereby it is secured to its respective body portion by the rivets 12. For adjustably holding one end portion of a curtain supporting rod, the outer end of each of the projecting arms is bent at 13 in substantially U shape and openings 1& are provided in the arms thus formed to receive the rod. The rod is locked against movement with relation to the arm by a thumb screw 15 which is threaded in the bight of the portion 13. By bending the ends of the projecting arms as described, two bearings are provided for .each end of the curtain support rod and it is thus firmly held.

In applying the brackets, they are simply hooked over the top sill 5 0f the-window. Should said sill lie too closely against the wall, the operation may be facilitated by springing the sill away through the use of an ordinary claw hammer or like tool. It is observed that the positive holding means for the curtain rod enables the said rod to adjustably hold the bracketsin spaced rela tion so that there is no possibility of the shade roller becoming detached. It is further observed that the rear arms 9 of the body portion of the bracket extend to the detaching point of the projecting arms whereby a firmer grip of the sill may be had, and relative twisting movement is prevented.

From the foregoing it is observed that a very simple device has been provided which will efiiciently perform the functions set forth.

That is claimed is.

The combination with a window frame, of a curtain, pole and shade holder comprising a pair of fiat U-shaped body members, formed with inner and outer arms, the said body members adapted to hook over the top sill of the said frame, with the inner arms disposed flush with the inner face of the sill of the frame, and the outer arms lying flush with the outer face thereof, brackets projecting outwardly from the outer arms, tho free ends of each of said brackets being bent substantially J-shaped, the arms thus formed being provided With alined rod rccciving openings, and thumb screws arranged in the bights of said brackets and adapted for engagement with a curtain pole.
