Description

i. 'Il' l'r HAMLIN F. KEENEY, OF WEST SALEM, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT iN WASHING-MACHINES.
Specication forming part of Letters Patent No. 118,247, dated August 22, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, HAMLIN F. KEENEY, of Vest Salem, in the county of ayne and in the State of Ohio, have invented an Improved NVash ing-Machine; and do hereby declare that the bllowing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing hereinafter referred to, toi-ms ai'ull and exact specification ofthe saine, wherein I have set forth the nature and principles of my said improvement, by which my invention may be distinguished from others of a similar class, together with such parts as I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent.
My invention relates to that class of washing- -machines in which pendent luted rollers and a concave board, provided with serrated projections, are made use of, and the nature thereotl consists in certain improvements and modilications in the details of the construction of the same, hereinafter described and shown.
In the accompanying drawing which illustrates my invention and forms a part of the speciiication thereof, in which corresponding parts are illustrated by similar' letters- Figure 1 is a view, in perspective, of my improved machine when in peration. Fig. 2 is a side view of the same when the parts thereof are closed. Fig. 3 is a detached view illustrating in detail the plates attached to the ends of the standards.
The construction, operation, and relative arrangement of the component parts of my invention are as follows:
To the lower ends of the standards A aresecured the plates B, which are provided `with the elongated apertures O and notches l), which allow the said plates to be moved laterally and secured in position by means of the bolts or screws E, as shown in Fig. l, or to assume the position shown in Fig. 2. The cross-bar F has its bearings in the upper ends ofthe standards A, and is provided with circular apertures through which pass the pendent rods G. To the lower ends er the said rods are attached the castings 0r plates H, provided with the prongs I, which form the bearings oi the luted rollers K. To the lower end of said rods is also secured the transverse metallic piece or splasher L. The concave serrated board M, as well as the rollers K, are, in practice, covered with zinc.
Having thus described my invention, I will indicate what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, viz.:
In combination with the wash-hoard M and standards A, the plates B provided with the apertures O and notches D, when constructed, arranged, and operating together as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 1st day et' April, 1871.
Vitnesses: H. F. KEENEY.
