Description

, anni crimine.
'HENRY J. SKINNER, or DUNKIRK, New YoRK.
Letters Patent No. 104,069, dated June 7, 1870.
The Schedule referred to in these LettereA Patentv and making'part of the same.
To all whom it may concern V Be it known that I, HENRY J. SKINNun, ot' Dunkirk, in the county of .Chautauqua and State of New York, hare invented certain new and useful Improvements in Beuch-Qtops; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to 'the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which forni part of this specification, in whichv Figure l represents avertical section ot my invention. A
Figure 2 is a perspective/view ot' the shank of the stop. V
'Ihe nature of my invention-consists in the construction and arrangement ot' astop feria carpentes bench, as hereinafter described.
A represents a metal tube, having, at its upper end, the ange B, the said iiauge being secured to the bottom ot' bench C by means of screws.
Into the tube A a spiral spring, d, is inserted, the lower end of the spring being made to rest on a shoul der near the lower end ot' tube A.
E is thestop, with the shank g attached to it, the said shank terminating in the screw-bolt h, whichextends a suitable distance below the bench C.
'Ihe shank gis furnished with shoulders s s, against which thc upper end of spring d will rest when in position. T
His acircnlar nut working on screw-bolt h,"desigued to act on the lower end of tube 'A for the purpose of compressing the spring d.
It will be observed that the upper surface of the stop E is at a right angle with the shank g, while the under surface slight-ly descends from the edge of the stop to the shank g, forming an obtuse angle, the object of which is to prevent the dust from collecting under the sel-rations at the edge of stopE, and thereby' prevent the stop `from descending into the excavation made to receive it.
To preyeut the wear 0f the opening through which the shank g is inserted, a metal plate, I, is bolted to the edge of said opening, its upper surface being ilush with the top of the bench.
In order to adjust the stop E, the operator willvturu,
the nut H, and thereby raise the stop or lower it, to suit his purpose.
Having thus fully described my invent-ion,
That I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isw Ihe stop E, constructed as described, in combina- 'tion with spring G, tube A, and adjlisting-wheel H,
all.A arranged'as described, and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim t-he foregoing as my own I atx my signature in presence ot two witnesses` HENRY J. SKINNER. `'Vitnesses z 4WM. Booksuvnn,
