UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILSON K. AZBILL, OF COLUMBIA, KENTUCKY.
IMPROVEMENT IN SASH-BALANCES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent ,No. 202,324, dated April 16, 1878; application file January 21, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILsoN K. AZBILL, of Columbia, in the county of Adair and State of Kentucky, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Han gin g Window-Sash, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a front elevation, showing my improved sash-balance Fig. 2, a vertical section thereof, and Fig. 3 a face view of the cord-clamp or compressor.
The object of my invention is an improvement in the clamp or cord-holder for attaching a cord to the lower sash of a window whose sash are balanced against each other by the combination of a cord, clamp, and pulley.
The combination, which, 1 am aware, is not broadly new, consists mainly of a plate, A, for attaching the cord B to the upper section of the sash, a pulley, O, to facilitate the movement of the cord, and a peculiar cord-holder, D, for attaching the cord to the lower section of the sash in such manner as to enable the operator to slide the cord or fix it at any given point thereon, as hereinafter described and claimed.
The plate D has a vertical hole, through which the cord B passes down from the pulley O in a right line, without passing through, or
said plate opposite to the protuberance, and
acting against the same to compress the cord. Having thus described my invention, what Iclaim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a sash-balance, the clamp or cord holder D formed from a perforated plate attached to the surface of the meeting-rail, and having the set-screw E acting upon the detached follower F as a cord-compressor, in combination with the plate A, cord B, and pulley 0, all constructed, arranged, and operating substantially as described and shown, for the purposes set forth.
WILSON K. AZBILL.
