UNITED STATES PATENT QFFICE.
\VILLIAM D. \VR-IGHT, OF BALTIMORE, MARYLAND.
IMPROVEMENT IN SASH-HOLDERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 206,383, dated July 23,1878; application filed May 7 To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, TILLIAM D. WRIGHT, of Baltimore, in the county of Baltimore and State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sash-Holdin g Devices; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, and in which Figure l is a vertical sectional view of a window frame and sash to which my invention has been applied. Fig. 2 is a section after the line 0; .r, Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference denote correspondin g parts in all the figures.
This invention relates to certain improvements in sash-holding devices; and it consists of a screw bolt or rod, provided with a thumbnut at one end and at its other end with an eye or ring encircling the sash-cord, and a plate let into the sash, substantially as hereinafter more fully set forth.
A is the window-frame, and B the sash. The sides of the latter are grooved or plowed, and
" about midway upon each side is formed a reoess, a, from which a perforation, b, leads to the inner edge of the sash inside the glass. In the perforation I) I place a screw-threaded rod or eyebolt, O, the end of which projects in front of the glass, while its eye 0 is accomodated in the recess a. Through the eye 0 I pass a short metallic plate, (I, secured in the groove.
D is a rope or cord, also passing through the eye 0, and secured to the inner sides of the window-frame, as at c. d. is a nut or thumbnut, adjusted upon the end of the screw, as shown.
In operation, the sash may be easily raised or lowered to any desired point, when, by tightening the nut d, the cord Dis clasped between the eye 0 and plate (I, and the sash thus prevented from moving.
My invention maybe applied to one or both sides of the sash at pleasure.
Having thus described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States The combination, with a window frame and sash, of a rod, cord, or rope, D, screw-threaded rod 0, having eye 0, thumb-nut d, and plate (7, all arranged and operating substantially as herein set forth, for the purposes shown and specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto afiixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
'ILLIAM D. lVRIGHT.
