Specification of Letterslfatent.
Patented Mar. 28, 1916.
Application filed March 11, 1915. Serial No. 13,820.
To all whomit may concern:
Be it known that I, FREDERICK W. BOB- BITT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Houston, in the county of Harris and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Swinging Cribs, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in a swinging crib.
The object of the invention is'to provide a device of the characterdescribed adapted to be suspended from any suitable support and which is'convertible into either a swinging crib or'a swinging seat and is designed par ticularly for the use of 'small children.
With the above and other objects in view the invention has particular relation to certain novel features of construction, arrangement of parts and use, an example of which is given in this specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Figure 1 shows a plan view of the device when used as a swing. Fig. 2, shows the device expanded and in position to be converted into a crib. Fig. 3 shows a sectional side view thereof, when used as a swing. Fig. 4c, shows a sectional view of the side members taken on the line--aa of Fig. 1.
Fig. .5, shows an isometricview of the crib frame. Fig. 6 shows a side view of thecrib.
Fig. 7 shows an end view of the swing, and,
Fig. 8, shows an enlarged fragmentary view of the crib frame as attached to the swing.
Referring now more particularly to the drawings, the numerals 9, 9, designate the side members, and the numerals 10, 10, the
side members, respectively, of the front and rear portions of the swing, said side members being connected at their front and rear ends, respectively, by the front and rear cross bars 11, and 12. The inner ends of the side members 9, 9, are also connected by the cross brace 13. The seat 14, is suspended fromthis swing frame by means of the front strap 15, the side straps 16,16, and the rear straps 17, 17, said straps being flexible. All these straps are secured to the seat, underneath,'at their inner ends and their outer ends are secured to the brace 13, the- side members 9, 9, and the rear cross bar 12, respectively, and the straps 17, 17, 17, are further strengthened and held in position by the cross strap 18, having its ends secured to-the respective members 10, 10, and to which the straps 17, 17, 17, are secured and these straps 17, 17, 17, and 18, form a back rest when the device is em ployed as a swing.
The under sides of the inner ends of the members 9, 9, have lengthwise grooves, as 19, and are faced with plates, as 20, each having a lengthwise slot, as 21, out therethrough and narrower than the corresponding groove, and secured to the upper sides of the inner ends of the respective side members 10, 10, are screws, as 22, which project through the corresponding slots and have enlarged heads as 23, and the side members are thus slidably connected together. The side members 9, 9, are braced relative to the brace 13, and also the side members 10, 10, are braced relative to the bar 12, by the braces 24, 24, and 25, 25, respectively, which are substantially triangular and secured, re spectively, to the members which they brace together.
The crib frame, shown in Figs. 5 and 6, has the corner posts 26, 26, 26, 26, and the side and end slots 27 27, and 28, 28, whose 'VVhen it is desired to convert the device from a swing into a crib, the respective side members 9, 9, and 10, 10, are pulled apart, so as to lengthen the swing frame and the lower ends of said corner posts are then inserted into the corresponding brackets 29, 29, 29, 29, carried by the respective ends of the swing frame, and studs 30, 30, 30, 30, project from said posts, which rest against the upper sides of the bars 11 and 12, and support the posts in said brackets.
The respective ends of the bars 11 and 12, have eyes 31, 31, 31, 31, secured thereto to which the lower ends of the respective chains 32, 32, 32, 32, are attached, and the other ends of these chains are secured to the cross rod 33, which is suspended by means of the chain 34, having a resilient link 35.
Then the device is used as a crib, as shown in Fig. 6, a pillow may be placed upon the seat 14:, so as to make it adaptable for that purpose.
While I have shown only one form of the device it is obvious that the structure therereserve the right to make such changes as What I claim is:
7 VI. A device of the-character describedin eluding an adjustable frame work, a seat and flexible straps suspending the seat" from the frame work. 7 l
2. A device of the character described including a lengthwise adjustable 7 swing frame, a seat suspended therefrom by means of flexible straps and a detachable crib frame mounted thereon. V V
3. A swinging frame formed of side and end members, the side members being formed of sections slidably united together, a seat, flexible straps by means of which the seat is suspended, a crib frame mounted on said swing frame, and detachable therefrom V g and yieldable means suspending said device.
1 4:. A swinging frame formed of side and end members, the side members being forming a baclcand sides for the seat.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses; r
