INVENTOR ATTORN EY WITNESS:
Patented Jan. 10, 1933 UNETED STATES PATENT OFFICE JACOB HIESCH, OF ERIE, PENNSYLVANIA FOLDABLE RACK Application filed January 23, 1932. Serial No. 588,462.
novel construction so that it may be conveniently adj Listed for use, especially during house-cleaning time and when not in use can be folded compact so that the same may be stored in the least possible space.
Another object of the invention is the provision of an article of this character, wherein the construction thereof is such that it may be readily folded or extended for use as a support, rack or holder, either for mattresses, clothes or other like articles.
A further object of the invention is the provision of an arti is of this character which is extremely simple in construction, thoroughly reliable and efficient in its purposes, light of weight but strong, durable, readily and easily folded and unfolded and inexpensive to manufacture.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the features of construc tion, combination and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter more fully described in detail, illustrated in the accompanying drawing which discloses the preferred embodiment of the invention and pointed out in the claims hereunto appended.
In the accompanying drawing Figure 1 is a plan view of the article constructed in accordance with the invention, the same being unfolded for use to support a mattress.
Figure 2 is a side elevation showing by full lines the article adjusted for supporting the mattress and by dotted line its use as a clothes rack.
Figure 3 is an enlarged fragmentary sectional view on the line 3-3 of Figure 2 looking in the direction of the arrows.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawing.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the article constitu ng the p e n invent on comprises an intermediate frame section vA, outer frame sections B, inte mediate p ops C and outer props D, respectively. termediate section A includes a p u a ty of spaced parallel bars 5, these at their ends being mortised to an e d ross link 6, while the outer sections B include the spaced parallel bars 7, these being joined with side pieces or members 8 in a manner correspondingly through the union of the bars 5 and link 6.
Carried by the side pieces or members 8 at their inner ends are hanging straps 9,
these receiving nut carrying bolts 10 which are engaged in the ends of the links 8 and thus the outer sections B are swingingly pivoted to and detachable from the intermediate section A.
The side pieces or members 8 near their outer ends have pivotally and detachably connected thereto the outer props D, these carrymg straps 11 receiving nut carrying bolts 12 Which engage in the side pieces or members 8 and pivotally and detachably connect the props with the outer sections B.
The mtermediate props C carry a brace 13 while the outer props D have fitted therewith cross rungs 14, these functioning in a manner $3 .u
articles to be carried by the said outer props D when in their raised or elevated position under adjustment of the device.
WVhen the device or article has the outer sections B horizontally disposed with the outer props D resting upon the foundation supporting the intermediate props C, the said device will serve to support a mattress.
It should be obvious that by loosening the bolts 10 and 12 and releasing the rack keepers 15, the device can be folded into compact Th inform or condition so that it may be stored in the least possible space when not in use.
The sections B can be locked by the bolt 10 in adjusted position relative to the intermediate section A and likewise the props D can be angllarly adjusted with respect to the sections when elevated from a foundation and these props D with the outer sections B adjusted to function as clothes rack hangers or su rts.
at is claimed is An article of the character described comprising an intermediate section, outer sections detachably and adjustably connected with the intermediate section to permit the swinging of said outer sections vertically or horizontally, props supporting the intermediate section, adjustable props supporting the outer sections when horizontally disposed and functioning as clothes racks when the outer sections are Vertically disposed, and rack keepers carried by the last mentioned props and adjustably engageable with the outer section.
I In testimony whereof I afiix m signature.
JACOB IRSCH.
