Application flee September 30, 1913'. Serial No; 792,551.
clear. and enact description, such as will enable others skilled inthe art to which 1t.
nppertains to make until use the same.
My present invention relates to ineniiioltling sales books and has particular relation to means for cletachably securing pads, purticulariy of so-collecl triplicate arrangement, to the covers of such books.
Tit-hos for its object to provide a simple and practical sales book l]0l( l(51'. l1 lfil1'lg peel holding means which may be ucljustecl in the course of manufacture to take peels of? fllf ferent sizes.
In the accompanying drawing. wherein is shown one of various possible enibotliinents of my' invention. Figure 1 is a perspective View of a portion of o. holder sot ficent to illustrate one embodiment of the present invention; and Fig. 2 is an encl elevationul iew of a complete sales book in normal operative position.
Similar reference characters refer to similar parts throughout both views or the drawing.
Referring now in detail to the ecoorn punying drawing and 1110M; particularly to 2 it will be seen that the present invention comprises a. llololer having 2. niein or bottom cover 1 to which is flexibly connected 2r top'corer 2 by means ot a hinge 3 extending along one of the side edges. The opposite side erigc is provirieol with a second hinge for attaching an auxiliary back or support 5 holcling e pad for receiving scriptions. This peel in the'present case is securerl thereto in my desired; manner, and song it plur ty of sets of original and duplicate ieeves 6 and 7, respectively. has associated theretr li e doublescour carbon sheet 8, represented by the heavy line, adapted to be interposed therebetween. The pad comprising plurolityof sets of original ancl duplieatelesves is rernovobly secured to the support 5 by means of a spring clamp 5 having teeth 5" adapted to beer on the top of s id peel. The triplicate reco'rii. of transaction is obtained. uponL the leaves of another peel 1O securecl at one side of the bottom cover 1. The leaves of the triplicate pod are preferably oi. tissue, entlin'nse are interposed between the upper surface of the carbon sheet 8 end the under surface or" the origin-til leaf It will thus be seen. that when the inscription is recorded upon the original leaf 6 it will lie reproducecl upon the upper surface oi the tripli-= cote leaf 7 and the under surface of t .e'
tissue sheet 11. "which being, translucent permits the inscription to be read through it. Alter the transaction is recorded the l.-
the hinge to Witlioperative position. 2 and ti" ippecl to a position een. iii. oin cover 1 and tl' 5, as slio'm'i at 12. tin. manner :1 conp. e record of all of the tent-sections coirveni filel away.
The pre -t invention resides more per3- ticulnrly in the means for liolcling or secur ing the pad 10 to the holder, and is shown more clearly in Fig. l The holding means comprises two sheet metal clips 13 anal is, secured utliueent the lower and upper edge, respectively, of the bottom cover 1 in any (lesiretl manner, is by means of rivets 15. The clip 13 is coniposeo of resilient sheet metal lz-ent back upon itself at 16 l1. ing upper and lower parts turnecl up to form flanges having" between tliei. groove in which i nza r be disposed cart or me back of the purl. These "up-turned portions 31? and if}; of the upper sncl lower limits of the :lip respectively provirle an abutment ncluptecl to prevent lateral encl endwise increment oi? the pad. or the pustebonrcl back 26 of re pail. which is scored along the (letter int 21st which the leaves of the earl are sti'telrccL/as "Well as along; the clotted. line closely utl ineeut thereto. thereby permitting the cover to be bent to ooniorrn tire the clip. The other clip 14: con'ipr'ses two parts, the base portion which IS secured to the cover of the book o? rivets 15. as above described. and? is proricletl one side with a flange 2-3 similar to that of the lower clip. The upper portion of the clip is also provided with a similar flange 25 corrcsponclingngto the portion. 1.? of the lower clip. 'llrese parts spueecl (lruu'n no as shown in .npert form a. groove in which is disposed of this type is substantially follows:
When it is desired to insert a triplicate book 10 in the holder, the operator first raises the upper portion 2% of the clip laiby means of the notch 28 and then inserts the attach in member or cover 20 of the triplicate boo-lit into the lower clip between its upper and lower portions. The scored lines 21 and 2 :2 permit the cover to conform to the shape of the clip more readily. ()1). releasing the upper part 24: of the clip 1% the same will. swing down under the action of the spring 27 and firmly clamp the cover portion of the hook 10 in position. The upright portions of both clips terminate substantially midway between the top and bottom. of the original. pad, as shown in 2, wl'ierehy the triplicate leaves will lie hat and completely cover the carbon sheet. thus permit-- ting the entire transaction to he properly recorded.
By having the holding means in two parts a large stock of these parts may helrept constantly on hand. by the nuinufacturer of the holders and placed upon. the covers of the holders according to the requirements of the order. for some concerns prefer a longer or shorter sales hook than others. The use of special machines and dies for stamping: out complete holders made from a single piece for the various sizes required is ac-. cordingly eliminated. It is also to he noted that there is great saving in the'ummint of 'material used, thus greatly reducing the weight of the book as well as its cost oi manufacture.
It is thus seen that the present invention is particularly designed for :ICCOIl'lPliSllll-W' among; others, all of the objects and advert tases ahove set forth.
Having described my invention "What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters latent is:
1. in. device of the character described a cover, and a retaining device comprising a hase secured to the cover and having an. sip-turned flange an upper part hinged to the base and provided with similar flange disposed to form a groove between the flanges, and a spring pressing the two parts together.
.2. it support, a pad, and means for securing the pad to the support, comprising a shee; metal clip having a base attached to the support, an upper part hinged to the base. a spring pressing the parts to gether, the pa each provided with unapturned flange having a space between them groove in which part of the pad forming may be iii. in ed.
:1. In a \tlcvire of the character described, a. (Ji. and retaining device comprising a base smart-red. to the cover and having an up turned 1 ange. an upper part provided With a similar tla a the flanges forming a groove hetuecn them; the upper part being hinged tothc hasc. the hinge being at an angle to the flanges. and a spring pressing the base and upper part together.
A. support, a. pad, and uieans'for securing! the pad to the support, comprising a shectanetal clip having a hase attached. to the support. an upper part hinged to the support. and a. epring pressing the parts together; each 0'! the parts being provided \vitl an upturned flange disposed substantially at right angles to the hinge, the flanges Forming;- a groove in which part of the pad may he :1 posed to secure it to the support.
in. testimony whereof I atlix my signature, in. the presence of two witnesses.
lVALTEE GREIG.
