Specification of lLettersiIPatent.
Patenteanec. v', i915.
Application led December 5, 1914. Serial No. 875,622.
`"of Salt Lake and State of Utah, have made certain new and useful Improvements in Loose-Leaf Statement-Books, of which the following is a specification.
My present invention relates to a loose leaf statement book and more particularly to one of the type shown and described in my Patent No. 992,618, granted May 16, 1911, and upon which this application is an improvement.
1n my patent above referred to, the several loose leaves or sheets were superimposed upon one another in an overlapping relation so as to expose portions of each sheet along one edge, the sheets being bodily arranged in different planes whereby each series thereof forms a division of the complete book which is thin at its ends and thick at its center, and one in which the several sheets arek bodily in a different position with respect to all of the other sheets by virtue of their particular location within the book. 1n my present application 1 provide complete sheets of varying sizes so that when all of the sheets are located in the same position with respect to the book they are automatically positioned With respect to one another so that the overlapping and indexing thereof is accomplished. Furthermore, in my present arrangement, each division of the book, constituted by a series of the leaves, is of the same thickness at one end as it is at a central point, and all of the statement sheets when detached are of uniform size.
1n the accompanying drawing which illustrates my present improvements, the figure is a sectional plan view illustrating the arrangement of a single series of the detachable statement sheets forming one index division of a loose leaf book.
Referring now to this ligure, the book is partially indicated at A, one end thereof having clamping pins A whereby the several series* of leaves, each constituting an index division of the book, are clamped and held between the book covers. The several sheets B of one series are shown above the index sheet C thereof, the several index lwill be of uniform size.
sheets C for thesucceeding series of loose leaves below the series B being seen in staggered relation at the upper portion of the figure. Each of the leaves B is ruled as shown at Z in statement form for use in a bank to serve as a bank balance book or tellers record over a certain period at the end of which the statements are removed and delivered to the customers or depositors along with their canceled vouchers and the like. These several statement sheets B are provided along one edge with stubs or blank extensions B and are joined to such stubs or blank extensions by means of a line of perforations B2, the several stubs or blank extensions B of the statement sheets throughout a series ybeing gradually increased in width downward through the series so kthat the leaves in superposed relation are successively extendedv at their free edges beyond one another, and each has an exposed portion which receives the name of the customer or depositor in connection with whose account the particular statement sheet is kept. Of the several sheets ofra series thereof, however, the perforated detachable lines B2 maintain the same relation with respect to the body of the statements themselves, so that all of the sheets when detached from their stubs or extensions B Due to this arrangement, each of the series of statement sheets is of the same thickness at its end adjacent the clamping pins A, which are received in recesses b of the stubs B, as it is at its center and hence the several series of leaves in the book maybe securely and tightly clamped without bulging. Furthermore, the several sheets of the several series are all secured at the same place in the book and automatically arrange themselves in yoverlapping relation to provide for the exposed edges whereon the names of all of the depositors or customers of a series appear at the same time when the particular index division is referred to.
l/Vhat 1 claim is A book of the class described composed of a plurality of indexed sections, each section consisting of an index sheet and a plurality of detachable sheets superimposed upon one another and having blank extensions or stubs along one edge gradually increasing in Width throughout the series whereby to expose portions of the opposite edges of all of the sheets, the several sheets in their normal positions being connected to their stubs or extensions by lines of perforations and the said lines of perforations having the saine relation tothe bodies of the sheets throughout the series, whereby ail of the sheets when detached from their stubs or extensions Will 18 QOPeS 0f this patent may be obtained for ve cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents,
