NOTGHED-LEAF BOOK.
A Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented sept. 2e, 1916;
Application ii1ed January 17, 1916. Serial No. 72,411. v 1
To all whom t may concern Be it known that I, HARLEY A. FRIEND, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Zion City, county of Lake, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Notched-Leaf Books, of which the following is declared to be a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to duplicate leaf books of account, such as are used in the usual course of business for making original and duplicate entries, as for instance receipts, memoranda andithe like, and the primary object of this invention is to provide simple means for locating the uppermost unused original leaf of the book, whereby the user may instantly turn to said uppermost unused leaf to make the necessary entry thereon.
This invention consists in the novel features hereinafter fully set forth and claimed.
This invention is clearly illustrated in the drawing accompanying this specification, in
which:
Figure l, is a perspective view of a duplicate leaf account book, embodying a simple form of the present invention, one of the coversbeing thrown back; Fig. 2, is a perspective view of said account book, showing one of the covers thrown back and a plurality of the leaves thereof spread apart to more clearly illustrate the invention, and Fig-3, is a perspective view of the book from which a number of the original sheets have been detached.
Referring to said drawing, numerals 10, l1, designate'the the book, l2, 'the detachable are made,
the reference leaves upon and whlch m-ay be designated as the original leaves, and 13,
designates the permanently bound leaves upon which the duplicates are made. Said originals and duplicates alternate with each other, and are bound with the covers in the usual manner. The original leaves l2, formed ywith lengthwise extending score lines or rows of perforation 14, and also with entry has been made thereon, and delivered to the customer or purchaser. The said slips. as well as the duplicate leaf may have suitable printed matter and blank spaces are located at or below book is the book.
two covers of cate leaf, thus which are to thereon, printed character of entries to be made.
The duplicating leaves 13, are formed with notches 16, in one edge, which notches the lowermost score lines or rows of perforation l5; said notches be filled in, said be made.
ig. l, the first original leaf in the seen partly raised, and immediately below the same, is the first duplicate leaf of original entries are to In F leaf is immediately exposed to view, and entries may be made upon each of the slips thereof, one after the other, and said slips may be detached one after the other and handed to the customers or purchasers. A bon or other transfer sheet is placed bethe duplicate in the slips of the .first original leaf have been cated immediately below the first duplicate leaf upon which entries have been made, and to turn to this uppermost original leaf all that is necessary for the user ,to do is to place his thumb upon the exposed part of the original leaf appearing through the notch 16, and then turn back the first dupliexposing the uppermost unused leaf. It will thus be seen that regardless of how many of the origina-1 leaves have been detached from the book, the uppermost unused leaf is exposed through the notches in the duplicate leaves thereabove. This is particularly shown in Fig. 3, where a number of original leave's'have been detached If desired, entries may be made not only on duplicate leaves but on triplicate leaves, and theoriginals and duplicates may have the lines of perforations whereby they may be detached, and the triplicate copies which are not to be detached from the book may be provided with the notches as above set forth. In fact, it is quite possible to provide a book matter depending of course upon the In opening' the cover, the first wherein any desired number oi copies may be made with the original entry, the last copy of which is the one permanently bound in the book, and the one in which lthe notch is formed.
I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. A notched leai: book, comprising alternating original and duplicate leaves, the original leaves having lengthwise and cross- Wise extending lines of perforations, dividing said lea-ves into a plurality of detachable slips, and the duplicate leaves being permanently bound in the book, each duplicate leaf. having a notch in `its edge located be- Capies ef this' patent may be obtained for ve cents each, by addressing the HL A. FREND.`
