To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, BRUNO ALBERT BERGER, a citizen of the United States, re-

siding at Richmond, in the county of Henrico and State of Virginia, have invented new and useful Improvements in Brackets, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to brackets, the object in view being to produce a strong, neat and cheap bracket which is easy to attach, which may be readily adjusted to any position and which is easy and clean to handle.

A further object of the invention is to produce a bracket which may be packed and shipped in a minimum space, found in practice to be about 15% only of the usual space required by brackets of a like character now on the market.

A further object of the invention is to produce a bracket in which the supporting and bracing members thereof are capable of being instantly connected and dis-conthe bracket being simple in construcin use.

With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings :F igure 1 is a side elevation of a complete bracket constructed in accordance with the present invention. Fig. 2 is a detail perspective view of the outer end portion of the supporting member. Fig. 3 is a similar view of the upper and outer end portion of the bracing member.

The bracket contemplated in this invention consists of two members only, A designating the supporting member and B the bracing member. Both of these members A and B are preferably formed of strap metal. The supporting member A has its inner end bent to form an attaching end 1 provided with holes 2 to receive suitable fasteners such as screws or bolts. the bracing member B has its inner and lower end bent to form an attaching end 3 provided with holes 4 for the same purpose as the holes 2. The supporting member A is provided adjacent to its outer extremity with a downward offset 5 leaving the extreme outer portion 6 of said supporting member in the same plane with the main nected,

body portion 7 thereof and the latter portion is formed with a longitudinal slot 8 to receive a bolt or other suitable fastener by means of which a shelf or other object may be fastened to the bracket.

The bracing member B is provided at its outer and upper extremity with a tongue 9 which is reduced in width as compared with the body portion 8 of the bracing member and the oifset portion 5 of the supporting memberA is formed with an opening 10 of just sutlicient size to admit the tongue 9 in the relation illustrated in Fig. 1. The tongue 9 is bent so that when the bracket is fully set up, said tongue will lie in a plane substantially parallel to the plane of the supporting member 7 and below or flush with the upper surface of said supporting member. quarter twist to the bracing member 8 as indicated at the points 11 and 12 thereby adding greatly to the strength of the bracing member.

lVhat I claim is A bracket comprising a supporting member, and a bracing member, one of said members having its extremity reduced to form a projecting tongue which is bent at an angle corresponding with the plane of the other member, and said other member being formed with a downward offset and an opening therein to receive said tongue and permit the latter to lie below the top surface of the supporting member.
