CHARLES G. ULINGS, OEBOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS, 'ASSIGNOR TO CHARLES W. ROGERS, OF SAME PLACE.
UMBRELLA-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 352,844, dated November 16, 1886.
v {A Application filed March 12, 1886. Serial No. 195,042. (No model.)
To all whom it may. concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES G. ULINGS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Umbrella-Holders, of which the followingis a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part hereof.
formed with a stem of cast metal, one end of which is cast around the head of a screw, and
the other end cast upon a wire ring, so that 1 the three parts are rigidly connected, and the bracket maybe screwed to the wall or other support without the aid of other tools; also in the combination of a drip-cup with the brackets.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation showing my umbrella-holder as composed of two brackets, with a drip cup in the lower ring and an umbrella resting in the holder. Fig. 2 is a plan of the lower bracket, and Fig. 3 is a plan showing the combination of two rings in one bracket. Figs. 4 and 5 are plan views, partly in section, illustrating the single and double brackets with the stem cast around the head of the screw and upon the wire ring.
In practice it is preferable to use two brackets. The lower bracket is formed with astem, a, of cast metal, cast around the head of a screw, b,and also cast upon the side of a wire ring, A. The screw 2) and the ring A are thus united to the stem a rigidly and inseparably. The ring and stem serve as handle and screw-driver, whereby the bracket may be fastened to the wall by means of the screw b without the aid 0 of other tools. The ring A is adapted to hold My invention consists in an umbrella-holder composed of one or more ring-brackets, each a cup to catch the drip from the umbrella when wet. The upper bracket may be of similar construction 'to the lower bracket, or it may consist of two or more rings upon one stem, as shown in Figs. 3 and 5. A slight bend in the wire, as at d, affords an anchorage to prevent any possible slipping of the ring. The bracket maybe screwed to the wall, or mounted upon a frame or anyother suitable support. 5o
' I am aware of Patent No. 287,676 to F. S. Hesseltine, and ldisclai m all that is shown 'or described therein.
I am also aware that the casting of a screw in a metal holder is old, notably in clothes- I hooks, and I do not claim such as my invention.
\lVhat I claim as my invention is- 1. An umbrella-holder consisting of aringbracket composed of a wire ring, a stem of cast metal, and a screw, the stem being cast around the head of the screw and around the side ofthe ring, so that the three partsare rigidly united, and the bracket may be screwed to a support without the aid of other tools, substantially as described. p
2. An umbrella-holder consisting of two ring-brackets each composed of a wire ring, a stem of cast metal, and a screw, the stem being cast around the head of the screw and around the side of the ring, so that the three parts are rigidly united, and the bracket may be screwed to a support without the aid of other tools, in combination with a drip-cup, substantially as described.
