SOAP HOLDER. v APPLICATION FILED MAR. 25, 1916.

UNITED STATES PATENT GFFICE.
JOHN G. BISSLING, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
SOAP-HOLDER.
Application filed March 25, 1916. Serial No. 86,741.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN C. RrssLINe, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Soap-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in soap holders and has for its object the provision of an improved construction of this character which is efficient in use and capable of economical manufacture.
The invention consists in the combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, and in which,
Figure 1 is a top plan View of a soap holder embodying my invention.
Fig. 2a side View of the same.
Fig. 3a section taken on line 33 of Fig. 2.
The preferred form of construction as illustrated in the drawing comprises a shallow tray or dish for holding the soap. A stud bolt 5 is passed centrally through the bottom of the tray 4 and is provided with upper and lower washers 6 and a nut 7 constituting the same a pivot stud. A supporting bar is provided for said tray consisting of a strip of sheet metal 8 bent centrally upon itself to form a sleeve 9 pivotally embracing the pivot stud 5, the adjacent ends of said strip being spread apart and formed into substantially semicircular clamping jaws 10. The bar is strengthened and stiffened by forming a central outwardly extending bead 11 in the sides thereof as shown and a clip 12 is arranged to embrace said bar and slide thereon. By this arrangement the jaws 10 may be opened by sliding clip 12 toward the tray 4. In this condition the jaws may be spread apart and engaged with any cylindrical object such as a gas pipe, water pipe or the like, and clampedthereto by sliding the clip 12 to a position adjacent said clamping jaws.
A supporting bracket is provided for the supporting bar consisting of a strip of sheet metal looped centrally to form a substantially cylindrical support 13, the ends of said strip being extended to constitute securing lugs 14: perforated for the passage of five cents each, by addressing Washington, D. 0.
screws 15 for securing the bracket to any.
WVhile I have illustrated and described the I preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into effect, this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. I therefore do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described my invention what I claim as new. and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A soap holder comprising a tray; a pivot stud on the bottom of said tray; a supporting bar for said tray consisting of a stripv of sheet metal bent centrally upon itself to form a sleeve to fit said stud, the ends of said strip being formed into clamping jaws; and a clip embracing and sliding on said bar, substantially as described.
2. A soap holder comprising atray; a pivot stud on the bottom of said tray; a supporting bar for said tray consisting of a strip of sheet metal bent centrally upon itself to form a sleeve to fit said stud, the ends of said strip being formed into clamping jaws; a clip embracing and sliding on said bar; and a bracket formed from a strip of sheet metal bent centrally to form a substantially cylindrical support, the ends of said strip being formed into feet and outwardly extending flanges being provided at the top and bottom of said support, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JOHN C. RISSLING.
