liability of injury to the workman.
In the drawings, accompanying and forming part of this specification: Figure 1 is an elevation illustrating the application of my novel appliance to a double reamer. F i g. 2 is a perspective of the appliance per 86. Fig. 3 is a detail section illustrative of the manner in which the adjusting nut is secured in the body of the appliance.
.Similar numerals of reference designate corresponding parts in all of the views of the drawings.
The under reamer illustrated is of conventional construction, and among other elements comprises a body 1 and a key-carrying mandrel 1 in which is a central threadedsocket designed to receive the adjusting stem 2 of my appliance.
In addition to the stem 2 the setting appliance comprises a frame 3 and an adjust-.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 19, 1915.
Serial No. 866,130.
In the practical use of the appliance, the frame 3 is set up against the base of the under reamer, Fig. 1, so that the notches in the arms of the appliance frame receive the fins 17 on the body 1, and the stem 2 is turned into the threaded socket in the lower end of the key-carrying mandrel 1. With this done, the nut (i is turned through the medium of the handle 16, whereupon the mandrel 1 will be drawn downwardly sufficiently far to permit of the key, the cutters and the setting ring of the under reamer beino' adjusted.
It will be gathered from the foregoing that a single workman can quickly apply my appliance to and manipulate it on an under reainer, and that incidental to the use of the appliance there is no liability of anything slipping and injuring the hands of the workman.
, Having described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters-Pat ent, is:
An appliance for the purpose described, comprising a U-shaped frame having notches in the ends of its arms, a stem having a threaded upper end and also having a threaded portion extending through the base bar of the frame, and a nut swiveled in the base bar of the frame and receiving and engaging the last-named threaded portion of the stem.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set inv hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
