SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 332,825, dated December 22, 1885.

To all whom, it may concern.-

Be it known that l, ARTHUR W. PARMELEE, of Worcester, in the county of Worcester and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Splasher- Holders; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, and in which Figure 1 represents a front view of my improved splasher-holder as it appears when secured in position upon the wall or partition ofa room, said figure also showing by dotted lines a splasher suspended therefrom, as hereinafter more fully described. Fig. 2 represents a top or plan view of said splasher-holder as it appears when fastened in position as aforesaid. Figs. 3 and 4 represent, upon an enlarged scale, longitudinal and transverse sections of one end of the holder, taken on lines a and b, Fig. 1, respectively; and Fig. 5 represents a modification hereinafter described.

The object of my invention is to provide a convenient and inexpensive means for fastening a splasher upon the wall or partition of a room, over the wash basin or bowl, to prevent injury by water spattering upon the paper of said Wall or partition; audit consistsof a horizontal rod or bar suspended at the ends in a rigid position by means of screw eyes and bases fitted over the same, and held in position longitudinally by suitable tips screwed onto the ends against the screw-eyes aforesaid, which also serve to ornament the holder.

To enable those skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe it more in detail.

In the drawings the part marked a represents the rod of the splasher-holder, which is suspended in a horizontal position at a short distance from the wall or partition d by means of screw-eyes e 6, one at each end thereof. The ends of the rod 0 are extended a short distance outside of the screw-eyes e e, and are provided with threads ff, over which are fitted the tips 9 g, for holding said rod in position longitudinally, said tips 9 9 being provided with correspondingly threaded openings h h, for the above purpose. They may be made hollow, as shown in Fig. 3, or solid, as shown in Fig. 5. Over the shanks e e of the screw-eyes e 6, between their eyes 6" e and the wall or partition (I, are fitted the base parts z i, which serve to stiffen the screw-eyes, and in consequence the whole device, when screwed up in position. They also as well as the tips 9 g, serve the purpose of ornamentation, in addition to holding and stiffening the parts,.as hereinbefore described. Any suitable shape or design may be adopted for both, and the bases 1' i may also be made hollow or solid, as shown in Figs. 3, 4, and 5. I prefer in practice to make them both hollow, of sheet metal, for the purpose of economy and convenience in manufacturing the same, but do not limit myself to this construction for reasons obviously seen.

In fitting my improved splasher-holder in position the bases i t are first fitted over the shanks of the screw-eyes. The latter are then turned into the proper places in the wall, up tight against the outer ends of their bases, thereby holding both in a firm and rigid manner. One of the tips 9 is next screwed onto one end of the rod 0 and the latter passed through one of the screw-eyes. The splasher is then fastened to the rod by passing said rod through a hem made in the upper edge of said splasher, or suitable suspending -rings fastened to said upper edge, after which the free end of the rod is passed through the other screw-eye and its respective tip screwed onto said end, up tight against the screw=eye, so as to hold the rod in a firm and rigid manner longitudinally.

If preferred, the holder may be first fastened in position, as above described, and the splasher subsequently suspended therefrom by means of suitable hooks fastened in the upper edge thereof, thus by this arrangement admitting of said splasher being removed for renewal at any time without disturbing the holder.

I am aware it is not new to use arod having tips screwed upon the ends thereof, the same being shown in Patent No. 299,483, granted to W. Lang, May 27, 1884.. I am also aware it is not new to support a rod loosely on hooks fastened in a wall by means of screw ends, as the sameis shown in Patent No. 228,308, granted to G. W. Brown, June 1,1880. I therefore 5 make no special claim to either of said features in a broad sense, but limit my invention to the combination of the several parts constituting my improved device, as hereinbefore described.

13 Having described my improved splasherholder, what I claim therein as new and of my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

A splasher-holder,the same consisting of the screw-eyes e e and bases 1' i, in combination 15 with the rod 0, having screw-threads {upon each end thereof, and screw-tips g 9, adapted to be screwed onto the ends of said rod 0, up tight against the screw-eyes aforesaid,after the latter have been fastened in position, whereby 20 said rod 0 is held in a rigid horizontal position, substantially as shown and described.
