NiTED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
PAUL G. GOLDSMITH, 0F TROY, NEV YORK.
CURTAIN-HANGING APPARATUS.A
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 620,648, dated March 7,1899. Application led December 3l, 1897. l Serial No. 665,081. (No model.)
To r/,ZZ whom, t may concern,.-
Be it known that I, PAUL G. GoLDsMITH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Troy, in the county of Rensselaer and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Curtain-Hanging Apparatus7 of which the following is a full and complete specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to certain improvements in curtain-hanging apparatus of that class in which the curtains are pendent from a rod and movable longitudinally upon the saine.
.The invention consists in the features of construction and com binationsof parts hereinafter fully described and specifically claimed.
The invention is fully disclosed in'the following specification, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by the same numerals of reference in each of the views, and in which- Figure l is a front elevation, partly in vertical section, of a curtain-hanging apparatus constructed in accordance with this invention. .Fig. 2 is a top plan of one end with the pole partially broken away. Fig. 3 is a vertical section on the lines 3 3 of Figs. 1 and 2, and Fig. et is a detail section on the line 4 4 of Fig. 1.
The pole or rod 1 is tubular and is provided with a longitudinal slot 2 throughout. Said pole or rod is supported at its ends by brackets 3, consisting of a base or plate 4, by means of which they are secured to the wall or window-frame, and outwardly-extending fingers 5, having laterally-extending lugs (i. Two iin gers and lugs extend from each bracket and are in vertical alinement. The lateral lugs 6 are designed to furnish the direct support for the rod 1 and enter the open ends thereof in the manner shown. To permit the rod 1 to turn upon said lugs freely, the outer faces of the latter are curved to conform to the curvature of the rod, so that while fitting tight therein (it being noted that the linger possesses a certain amount of elasticity) said rod can be readily turned so that the curtain can be removed from the rod without disturbing the brackets which support the same.
The curtain is supported from the rod by means of a vplurality of travelers consisting of a shank 7, having a ring 8 at its lower end and a head 9 at its upper end. Between the ring and head are two washers 10, having adjacent con Vex faces, the shank turning freely therein. Said travelers pass along the slot 2, the shank extending through the latter with a washer above and below, as shown in Fig. 1. The curtain is attached to the rings of Vsaid travelers by any suitable means.
To support the rod between its ends to prevent sagging, rings 11 are employed that lit closely upon the rod and have a slot 12 to regis'ter with the slot 2 to allow the travelers to move freely. An eye 13 opposite the slot 12 serves as means for holding the ring conveniently by means of al nail or screw. It is seen, further, that said ring does not interfere with the turning of the rod and that anynumber can be employed, as found convenient.
Having fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. In curtain-han ging apparatus, a tubular rod, and brackets carrying projecting springfingers oppositely arranged in relative position and respectively embodying a portion projecting within the ends of said rod on a longitudinal plane which portions interiorly bear at diametrically opposite sides against the rod and operate to clamp the same in supported position, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. In curtain-hanging apparatus, a tubular rod, and brackets having oppositely-arranged laterally-projecting spring-lugs entering the ends of the rod on a longitudinal plane and respectively bearing interiorly against the same at diametrically opposite sides, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
3. In curtain-hanging apparatus, a tubular rod, and brackets having spring-fingers carrying lateral lugs entering the ends of said rod, substantially as set forth.
4. In curtain-hanging apparatus, a tubular rod, and brackets having two lateral lugs with curved outer faces, said lugs entering the ends of said rod, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my naine, in presence of the subscribing witnesses, this 29th day of December, 1897.
PAUL G. GOLDSMITII.
W'itnesses:
GEORGE McIN'rYRE, JOSEPH G.. MCNUTT.
