CHILDS GARMENT.
Specification of Letters Patent. t t 3 mg Application filed. March 4, 1915. Serial No. 12,018.
To (1711071017? it may concern. 7
Be it known that I, JULIUs L. LUBELL, a citizen of the Unlted States, and resldent of the county of the Bronx, in thecity and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Childrens Garments, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in and relating to childrens garments, and has for its object to provide such a garment which may be worn with or without a coat and which may have the appearance of a waist or blouse and vest as desired.
A further object is to provide such a gar ment adapted to have the appearance of a vest, which will support the trousers in the ordinary way with such garments, and at the same time have a neat and dressy ap pearance.
With these and other objects in view, my invention consists of the novel details of construction, arrangement and combination of parts hereinafter more fully described, and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a view of the garment with coat removed and having the appearance of a blouse; Fig. 2 is a similar view with coat on; Fig. 3 is a view with coat on and having the appearance of a Vest; Fig. 4 is a detail front view of the garment; and Fig. 5 is a detail rear view of the garment.
Similar reference numerals indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views.
Referring to the drawings, and more particularly to Fig. 1, the invention comprises an upper garment 1 to which is buttoned or otherwise secured a lower garment or trousers 2, and a coat 3 is provided which may or may not be worn as desired. The upper garment l is preferably buttoned down the front by means'of the buttons 4 in the usual way, but these buttons may if desired be merely ornamental or dispensed with if desired and the garment buttoned at the rear or at some other portion of the same. Slightly above the lower edge of the garment 1 the buttons 5 are provided, to which are attached the trousers portion 2. The two innermost front buttons 5 are spaced apart as shown in Fig. 4, and a cut out portion 6 provided between the same, the side edges of which extend slightly above the buttons 5 and to the line of the top of the trousers 12. The top edge 8 of the cut out portion is cut to represent the lower edge of a vest, the portion 9 formed thereby being adapted to be left inside the top band of the trousers as shown in F igs.'1 and 2 to represent a blouse, or laid outside the trousers to represent a vest as shown in Fig. 3, when the coat is worn. Upwardly extending notches 10 and 11 are provided at the ends of the edge 8 to allow the portion 9 to lie smoothly.
It will be readily seen that with this invention a garment is provided which may be worn upon numerous different occasions and have the appearance at such times of a dif ferent suit if desired.
I have illustrated preferred and satisfactory forms of my invention, but it is obvious that changes may be made therein without departing from the spirit and scope thereof, except as may be required by the claims.
I claim I 1. In a garment of the character described, an upper body portion having a waist-band, a lower garment adapted to be fastened to the saidwaist-band, and a depending forward portion provided on the said upper garment, extending partially across the front of said garment, of a configuration adapted to represent the lower edge of a vest, the said depending vest-shaped portion adapted to be placed out of view within the said lower garment, or in view outside of the said lower garment.
2. In a garment of the character described, an upper body portion having a waist-band provided with a cut-out portion extending partially across the front of the said garment, a depending portion within the said cut-out portion of a configuration adapted to represent the lower edge of a vest, a lower body garment, and fastening means extending around the said waist-band adapted to secure the said lower body garment to the said upper body garment, the said depending vest-shaped portion adapted to be placed out of view within the said lower garment,
or in View outside of the said lower garment.
3. Ina garment of the character described,
an upper body garment having sleeves and a collar, a waist-band on the uppergarment, a lower body garment adapted to be fastened to the waist-band of said upper body garment, a depending forward portion provided 2 on the said upper body garment of a coir figuration to represent the lower edge of a vest, sleeves on the said upper body garment,
a collar on the said upper body garment, and
an outer garment having a plain neck-band,
the said upper body garment adapted to extend through the armholes of the said outer garment, the collar of the said upper body garment adapted to he, outside the plain neck-band of the said outer garment, and the said depending vest-Shaped portion of the upper body garment adapted to be.
placed out of View Within the said lower JULIUS L. LUBELL.
