SANITARY CLOSET.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed May 21, 1915. Serial No. 29,576.
To all 1071,0111, it may 0071067 771.
Be it known that we, JOHN W. Nnnson and Jesse C. ScooeINs, citizens of the United States, residing at Viola, in the county of Sedgwick and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sanitary Closets; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This inventionrelates to new and useful improvements in sanitary closets and consists of a simple and eiiicient device of this nature so arranged that a sealed joint will be afforded between the lid and the bucket and in the provision of means for ventilating the bucket.
Theinvention comprises a simple and eflicient device of this nature, having various details of construction, combinations and arrangements of parts which will be hereinafter fully described, shown in the accompanying drawings and then specifically defined in the appended claims.
'We illustrate our invention in panying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the closet showing the top or lid thereon. Fig. 2 is a top plan view. Fig. 3 is a top plan view showing the retaining members swung open. Fig. f is a top plan view showing the seat down and lid open. Fig. 5 is a top plan view with the lid closed. Fig. 6 is a detail perspective view of the draft box. Fig. 7 is a sectional view on line 7-7 of Fig. 4E. S is a cross sectional View through the clamping members.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates a bucket which may be of any size or shape, the one in the drawings being of cylindrical outline, and B is a circular flanged band fitted to the circumference of the bucket and adapted to rest upon the floor D and serving as a means of support, the bucket passing through an aperture in the floor, as shown in the drawings. A draft box, designated by letter E, has projecting ends E which are apertured for the reception of retaining bolts E whereby the box may be fastened to the wall F. Said box, which is hollow, is
the acconr provided with apertured lugs Gr through which pins G pass and upon which the grooved and semi-cylindrical clamping arms H are mounted, the meeting ends of which may be locked together by means of a hasp H. The grooved portions of said clamping members engage said beading and form a sealed joint. The upper portion of the bucket has a beading A formed thereon and upon the under side of the draft box is a curved grooved flange H adapted to receive said beading. It will be noted upon reference to the sectional view through the clamping band that the latter is provided with an upwardly turned flange H forming a rest for the seat H which latter is hinged upon a pin H carried by lugs in the plate H Q designates a curved flange, integral with and upon the top of the draft box and which, when the seat is closed, is flush with the marginal edge thereof, as shown in the drawings. A flanged lid L is hinged to a pin L and is adapted to fit over the curved flange H and about the seat to form a sealed joint when closed.
A pipe R leads from the interior of the draft box and forms a means for venting the bucket and an aperture T is formed in one of the clamping arms and is closed by a door T and serves as a means whereby, when the door is open, a draft through the draft box and vent pipe may be established.
By the provision of a closet made'in accordance with our invention, it will be noted that a perfectly sanitary apparatus is afforded, the joints between the lid and seat being sealed when closed and the bucket ventilated at all times and so constructed that, when desired, may be easily removed and replaced.
What we claim to be new is 1. A sanitary closet comprising a bucket having a circumferential beading thereon, a stationary draft box having a grooved flange for the reception of said beading, clamping members hinged to the box and adapted to frictionally engage the circumference of the bucket, means for locking the members in a clamping relation to the bucket, a seat and a lid forming a sealed joint about the same.
2. A sanitary closet comprising a bucket having a circumferential beading thereon, a stationary draft box having a grooved flange for the reception of said beading, grooved and curved clamping members pivotally mounted upon the boxing and engaging the beading upon the bucket, means for locking the members in clamping relation With the latter, a hinged seat and a lid adapted to fit over the seat and form a tight joint.
'3. A sanitary closet comprising a bucket having a circumferential beading thereon, a stationary draft box having a grooved flange for the reception of said beading, curved and grooved clamping members pivotally mounted upon the box and engaging the beading upon the bucket, means for locking the members in clamping relation With the latter, a seat hinged to the box and adapted to rest upon said clamping members, a flanged lid hinged to the box and adapted to fit over the flanges of the clamping member.
4:. A sanitary closet comprising a bucket having a circumferential beading thereon, a stationary draft box having a grooved flange forthe reception of said beading, curved and grooved clamping members pivotally mounted upon the box and engaging the beading upon the bucket, means for locking the members in clamping relation With the latter, a
seat hinged to the box and adapted to rest Gopies of this patent may be obtained for upon said clamping members, the upper surface of said box having a curved flange thereon, a flanged lid hinged to the box and adapted to fit over said curved flange upon the latter and about the flanges of said clamping members.

stationary draft box having a grooved flange flange upon the latter and about the flanges of said clamping members, said boxing havlng a vent pipe leading therefrom.
6. A sanitary closet comprising a bucket having a circumferential beading thereon, a
stationary draft box With a curved, grooved flange upon its bottom for the reception. of said beading, clamping members hinged to the box and grooved to engage the heading, means for locking the same in clamping relation With the bucket, a seat hinged to the box, a flanged lid hinged to the latter, a curved flange upon the box over Which and the flanges upon said clamping membersv said lid is adapted to pass, and a flanged band upon the bucket adapted to support the latter. 7 I I In testimony whereof We hereunto aflix our signatures in presence of two Witnesses;
JOHN VV. NELSON.
