Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
, FBEDRIGK G. LUETHI, 0F STOUG-HTON, WISCONSIN.
IDENTIFICATION DEVICE.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FREDRIGK G. LU'ETHI, a citizen of the United States, residing at Stoughton, in the county of Dane and State of Wisconsin, have invented newand useful Improvements in Identification Devices, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is an improved identity indicator, the object of the invention being to provide an improved device of this character for personal wear and by means of which the identity of the wearer may be readily ascertained in the event that the wearer should be killed or injured and which when worn by a child would enable the identity of the child to be readily ascertained should the wearer become lost, the invention consisting in the construction, combination and arrangement of devices hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawing :Figure 1 is a perspective view of an identity indicator constructed in accordance with my invention and showing the casing thereof closed. Fig. 2 is a similar view with the cap of the casing removed and with the label also removed and unrolled. Fig. 3 is a sectional view of the same with the parts c'ompactly disposed and the casing closed.
In accordance with my invention I provide a casing 1 which is cylindrical in form with rounded ends and comprises a body 2 and a cap 3. The body is provided at its upper end with a threaded portion 4 and with a milled flange 5 below said threaded portion and the cap is internally threaded and adapted to be screwed on the threaded portion of the body to effect a watertight joint therewith. The body is provided on one side near its lower end with a socket hook 6. The cap is provided on one side with a spring pin 7 which when the cap has been screwed to the body is adapted to be engaged with the socket hook. The pin enables the casing to be readily attached to the clothing of a person and the case with its Specification of Letters Patent.

pin may be used as a safety pin if desired. Where the case is to be worn by a grown person it may be ornamented and adapted for use as a brooch or the like.
a A spindle 7 is arranged for insertion in the body of the case and to this spindle is attached one end of a flexible label 8 on which may be inscribed the name and address or other information with reference to the wearer and user of the indicator and to establish the identity of such person. This label is ada ted to be rolled compactly on the spindle g and together with the spindle may be placed in the casing and held securely therein by, the screw cap. In the event of the death or accident to the person wearing the identification indicator the case may be readily opened, the label withdrawn and unrolled and hence the identity of such person may be readily ascertained.
When the pin is engaged with the'socketcap threaded thereon and detachable therefrom the said body being provided with a hook and the said cap belng provided with a pin to attach the device to a garment and also for engagement with the hook, the hook being adapted to hold the point of the pin and coact with'the pin to prevent the cap from being casually unscrewed.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
