1 Claim. (Cl. 24-3) This invention relates to safety devices of the non-slip type, and one of its objects is to provide a device of that character which is primarily designed to protect articles, such as pocketbooks, bill folds, note books, etc. carried by or on the person of the user, from being lost or stolen, in that the device sets up a frictional action when contacting a surface to prevent slippage of the article from the pocket, arm or hand of the user.

A further object is to provide a non-slip safety device, that can be readily attached to articles of all kinds including those above mentioned, as Well as floor mats, rugs and the like, door stops, furniture, to prevent slippage thereof, and the device can also be attached to clothing, particularly about the waist band of trousers, so that when the trousers are worn, the devices will engage the shirt to prevent the latter from creeping up, as will be apparent.

'Ihe main object is to provide a new article of manufacture made into a singley body from rubber or like pliable material, and into sections of various shapes and sizes, that can be readily separated from each other for individual attachment to any article or within a pocket or the like for the purpose set forth.""`

This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in theV combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and specifically pointed out in the appended claim,

In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawing wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which:

Figure 4 is a perspective view of one of the other sections of the device in the form as shown, attached to a book of a type generally carried in a pocket of clothing or the like.

Figure 5 is a vertical sectional view taken through a pocket on an article of clothing and illustrates border sections secured therein and engaging a pencil to prevent removal of the latter.

Referring to the drawing in detail, and particularly to Figures 1 and 2, it will be noted that my invention in the form as shown includes a body of the border The body also includes border members or sections 9 which are co-extensive with the outer edges of the grouped sections l, as best shown in Figure 1, and the sections 9 have disposed along the longitudinal center thereof a rib or ridge lll for a purpose which will be later described. From the rib l0, the sections are laterally inclined to likewise provide outer feathered edges il which meet and are connected to the feathered edges of the outer edges of the grouped sections l, as at l2. The grouped sections likewise have their outer feathered edges connected together as at I3 and it will be obvious that the feathered edges facilitate detaching the sections from each other by cutting the same along the edges, when it is desired to put any one or more of the sections into use, as illustrated in Figures 4 and 5.

The rear face of the body 6 is of course flat and may have a coating of adhesive material thereon, but in any event when the sections are to be put in use they are detached from each other, and in Figure 4 one of the sections is shown as being applied to a pocket carried book I4, with the f serrated surface outermost, with the result it will be ofbvious that when the book is disposed within a pocket, the serrated surface will set up a frictional engagement with the sides of the pocket and thereby prevent removal of the book therefrom.

In Figure 5 I have illustrated the use of sections 9 within a pocket l5 of an article of clothing, for holding pencils or the like l5 therein, and for that purpose the flat faces of the sections 9 are adhesively or otherwise secured to the confronting faces of the pocket with the ridges lll disposed innermost for arrangement in the path of the pencil to set up a frictional engagement therewith, thereby preventing casual or accidental removal of the vpencil from the pocket.

While I have shown the sections 'l as being substantially diamond shaped, I want it understood that they can be of any shape and design without departing from the spirit of the invention, and

they can be applied for use on any article whatsoever, to set up a frictional action against any surface coming in contact therewith. The shape of the sections 9 may likewise be varied and like the sections 1, they also can be used for numerous purposes, some of which have been set forth inthe objects of the invention.

It is thought, from the foregoing description various shapes and sizes and having a flat rear Vface,'sorne oi said sections being grouped together and each grouped section having a raised roughened surface, beveled border walls about the roughened surfaces to provide feathered edges, border sections surrounding the grouped sections and having beveled portions providing feathered, edges connected to the outer feathered edges of the grouped sections, the inner feathered edges of the grouped sections being connected together, ribs formed on the border sections, all of said sections adapted to be severed from each other for use on or with articles to set up a frictional engagement therewith or with surfaces adjacent said articles to hold the articles against move ment, and said feathered edges facilitating severance of the sections.
