l DEVICE FOR I OLONGING SLEEP.
l I Specicationlof Letters Patent.
Patented Dee;17,1912.
To all whom 'it may concern.'
Be it known that I, HELENA M. S. BUL- LocK, a citizen of theUnited States, and a resident of Cambridge, in the county of Middlesex, State of Massachusetts, have invented a certain new and useful Device for Prolonging Sleep, of whichthe followingis a specification. v
The object of this invention is to provide means to be Worn by a person when sleeping to prevent him fromwaking up on the appearance of light.
The means of this invention, and which for convenience is designated a device for prolonging sleep, consists in substance of a rectangular piece of stockinet, or any other suitable 'material held. over the eyes by means of a loop at each end thereof, said loops adapted to lit over the ears.
ln the accompanying drawings,'f orming part of this specification, Figure 1 isa side view of the sleep prolonging device, of this invention and illustrated as in use. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the device.
ln the drawings l is the eyeshield and 2 the ear loop. v
The same reference numerals denote the same parts throughout the several views of the drawings.
The device ,consists of a rectangular piece,
or eyeshield 1, composedl of stockinet, or any other suitable material, provided-at each end with a loop, 2, composed of thread or anyy Application led November 11, 1.909. Serial No. 527,393.
rectangular piece l, at 3. It has been found upon practical application of the invention that the ends of the loop, 2, vshould be atapart, because if attached to the same point the thread twists together.
rI`he operation is as follows: Upon retiring atfnight `the wearerplaces the eyeshield over the eyes and slips a loop over each ear, thus holding the eyeshield in place during the night and preventing the wearer from waking upon the appearance of any light.
I .do not limit myself to the details of construction, since they' may be varied and still my invention 'be embodied.
Having'thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by. Letters Patent is- A device for prolonging sleep comprising an eye-shield of light-absorbing material of a length suiicient to extend from temple to temple andlof a'width suicient to cover the eyes, provided at each end with a loop of sufficient length'to extend from the end of other suitable material, attached to the said .tached to the eyeshield, 1, about an inchl the eye-shield around' the ear for holding the eye-,shield in place, substantially as described.` f
