Description

Jan. 8, 1935. I FITREADWELL 1,986,988
APPLICATOR FOR MOUTH SUCTION Filed Au ,13, 1954 1. fifraadweil Inventor Attorney Patented Jan. 8, 1 935 1,986,988 APPLICA'IOB FOR MOUTH S IlCTI ON Madison F. Treadwell, St. Petersburg. Fla.
Application August 13, 1934, Serial No. 739,686
2 Claims.
This invention relates to an applicator for mouth suction, the general object of the invention being to provide means whereby snake bites, insect bites, and wounds can have suction applied thereto by the mouth of a person without thedanger of said person coming in contact with the poison or other matter drawn from the wound.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and inthe combination and arrangement of several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and specifically pointed out in the appended claims. w
In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawing wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and. in which:
Fig. 1 is a view showing how the invention is used. a l
Fig. 2 is a sectional view through the device.
Fig. 3 is a View of the rear part of the device.
As shown in these views, the device comprises a substantially rectangular shield 1 having a nipple or bag-like portion 2 which passes through a centrally arranged hole in the, shield 1, the shield and the nipple being formed of very thin rubber or the like. The drawing shows the open end of the nipple as pressed against that part of the shield surrounding the opening therein with the parts vulcanized or otherwise firmly connected, although the two parts can be otherwise formed and connected together if desired. An eyelet 3 is placed in each corner of the shield for receiving the flexible members 4 which are adapted to pass over the earsof the user as shown in Fig. 1.
Thus, it will be seen that the shield covers the mouth and the lips of the user with the nipple 2 extending into the mouth so that, by placing the a snake bite or the like,'pressure and suction can be exerted on the wound and thus the poison or other matter in the wound can be drawn into the nipple and thus not contact with the mouth or lips of the user. The open end of the nipple can be made oval or of any desired shape.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of the invention will be readily apparent.
It is to be understood that changes may be made in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.
I claim:
1. A device of the class described comprising a shield for extending over the mouth of a person, and a nipple having itsopen end connected with the shield and adapted to extend into the mouth of the user.
2. A device of the class described comprising a shield having a hole therein, a nipple having its open end passing through the hole, said shield and nipple being formed of thin resilient material, and meansfor attaching the shield to a user with the shield covering the mouth of the user and thenipple extending into the mouth.
