My invention relates to improvements in means for massaging and applying medicinal preparations to the hair and scalp, and the same has for itsobject to provide a device for treating the head, scalp and hair, which is simple in construction, eflicient in operation, and inexpensive to manufacture.
Further, said invention has for its object to provide a device of the character specified consisting essentially of two parts which may be readily assembled for use.
Further, said invention has for its object to provide a device of the character specified of two parts, of which one serves as a receptacle or reservoir for the medicating agent, and the other as the massaging element.
Further, said invention has for its object to provide a device of the character specified in which the reservoir or receptacle portion of the .device may-be readily detached from the massaging element when it is desired to flll the reservoir with a medicating agent preparatory to using the device. I
Further, said invention has for its object to provide a device of the character specified which is made of yielding or elastic material, and in which its cooperating partsare constructed and arranged to form a fluid-tight joint between the same when the device is in use, as well as when it is not in use.
Further, said invention has for its object to provide a device of the character specified in which the resilient receptacle is disposed within and enclosed by the cover portion, and the parts so constructed and arranged that when pressure is applied to the outer surface of the receptacle there will be a tendency'of the reinforced open end to spread, which will be resisted by the flange of the cover portion, anda tight closure with the interior of the embracing flange of the cover results.
Other objects will in 'part be obvious and in part be pointed out hereinafter.
To the attainment of the aforesaid objects and ends, my invention consists in the novel features of construction, and in the combination, connec- Fig. 2 is a central section taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 3; and

In said drawing l0 designates the device, as a whole, which is preferably made of comparatively soft rubber, and comprises a substantially semispherical receptacle ii having its inner wall portion adjacent to its open end curved inwardly and downwardly to form a thickened reinforced rim portion i 2, and the lower or outer face of said rim portion provided along its inner edge with an annularrecess or rabbet l3. The outer side of said receptacle ll, adjacent to its open end, is provided with an annular rib or bead I! which serves as a stop for the cover member I5, about to be described, and to insure the positioning of said cover member l5 evenly along the edge or rim l2 of said receptacle.
The cover member is is of circular form and provided upon its flat outer surface IS with a plurality of tapering prongs or teeth ll formed integrally with said cover member. The cover member I5 is provided along its edge with a peripheral upwardly-extending, tapering flange or rim l8 having an annular rib or bead l9 upon its outer surface to reinforce said rim or flange I8 and to facilitate the handling of the device. The upper or free edge of said flange or rim I8 is adapted to engage with the under side of the annular rib or bead ll of the receptacle I I.
The inner side of the cover member is concaved at 20 to render the same somewhat more resilient at that point, and said concave portion terminates in an annular shoulder 2! which corresponds to and registers with the cooperating annular recess I 3 of the receptacle II. The annular space 22 between the inner side of the flange or rim l8 and the shoulder 2| of the receptacle ll forms an annular socket to receive the lower edge of the rim portion l2 of the receptacle Ill. The inside wall of the flange or rim l8corresponds closely in curvature with the outside surface of the rim I2 of the receptacle and forms a comparatively fluid-tight closure between ,said parts.
To allow for the discharge of the medicinal agent fromthe receptacle H the cover member I5 is provided at the center of its concaved portion 20 with a small, centrally-located aperture 23.
The operation of the device will be readily obvious from the foregoing description. It is to be noted, however, that when pressure is applied to the outer side of the receptacle II, as illustrated at Figure 1, any tendency of the lower or open end of said receptacle to spread will be resisted to some degree by the reinforced or thickened rim l2 thereof, and by the reinforced rim or flange l8 of the cover member II, and thus insure a closure between said parts which will prevent the undue escape of fluid from the receptacle Ill. The concaved central portion 20 of the cover serves to render the cover somewhat more elastic at that point so that the same may respond more readily with a pulsating movement when pressure is applied to the outer surface of the receptacle Ill, as indicated at Figure l, and the due discharge of the medicinal agent through the aperture 23 insured.
Having thus described my said invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A device of the character described comprising a dish-shaped member of yieldable material including a reinforcing bead at the rim thereof and a rabbet formed in said bead about the mouth of said member, and a cover of like material having a shouldered portion interfltting with said rabbet to brace the mouth of said member and including a flange conforming to and yieldably engaging the outer surface of said member at the rim thereof and forming with said shouldered portion a groove for receiving the edge of said bead.
2. A device of the character described comprising a substantially semi-spherical hollow resilient receptacle having an opening therein and a relatively thickened rim, said rim having a rabbet formed in the edge thereof contiguous to said opening, and a resilient cover for said receptacle having a tapering peripheral flange and a shouldered portion disposed inwardly of and in spaced relation to said flange, said flange and said shouldered portion engaging respectively with the outer side of said rim and with said rabbet, said 'cover having at the outer side thereof a plurality of integrally formed prongs, and an aperture extending through said cover and communicating with the interior of the receptacle.
3. A device of the character described comprising a substantially semi-spherical hollow receptacle of resilient material having an opening therein and a relatively thickened rim. said rim
