Be it known that 1, Farm W. $Nrnnn, a citizen of the United States, residing at @hicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Identification Devices, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to identification devices especially adapted to be worn on ones person so that identification may be quickly made in case of accident or death.

Briefly stated an important object of this invention is to provide an identification device in the nature of a belt buckle having a compartment in which an identification card bearing the name, address and other data relating to the wearer of the belt buckle is readily accessible by the opening of the cover of the buckle.

A further object of the invention is to provide an identification device of the class described which is of highly simplified construction, neat in appearance, and cheap to manufacture.

Other objects and advantages will be. apparent in the course of the following description.

In the drawing wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of the invention the numeral 5 designates a belt, one end of which has connection with the loop 6 of a buckle generally designated by the numeral 7. The loop 6 has its inner end provided with laterally projecting pins 8 which extend through the ears 9 of the back 10 of the buckle. Figures 3 and 4: plainly illustrate that the inner end of the belt engaging member 6 is extended laterally and is provided with a series of teeth 11 adapted to bite into the belt to hold the same firmly between the back or closure member 10 and the loop.

Figures 2 and i plainly illustrate that the back 10 is hingedly connected as indicatedat 12 to the body of the buckle and is adapted to extend into the inner side of the buckle to close the compartment 14: therein.

Figure 2 illustrates that the inner side of the back 10 may be provided with a piurality of struck-out approximately triangular lugs 20 to hold an identification card 22 in place. (If course the identification card may hear such matter as the name and address of the wearer of the belt buckle.

()ne end of the body of the belt buckle is provided with a flange 24 having an ear 26 adapted to be engaged by the end of the back 10 so as to hold the back firmly within the compartment 14-.

v In preparing to use the improved belt buckle the name and address of the user is placed on the back 10 in the manner illustrated in Figure 2 and the belt buckle is then applied to a belt in any suitable manner and is employed as illustrated in Figure 1.

Particular attention is directed to the fact that the belt buckle provides a convenient identification means without in any way mar-ring the appearance of the buckle. In fact during the use of the device the identification data is entirely concealed.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is:

1. In a belt buckle of the type described, the combination of an outer compartment comprising a face and side and end mem bers, a rear member adapted to fit within said outer compartment and pivotally connected therewith, prongs secured to the inner face of said rear member and adapted to receive a card therein, ears integral with said rear member and extending rearwardly at substantially right angles to said rear member, means provided in said ears to receive a belt retaining member and a lip integral with the end of said outer compartment opposite to the pivotal means and adapted to engage the rear portion to retain it in locked position.

2. In a belt buckle of the type described, the combination of an outer compartment comprising a face and side and end members, a rear member comprising a plate adaptedto fit within said outer compartment and pivotally connected therewith,

prongs secured to the inner face of said rear member and extending vertically towards each other, said prongs adapted to receive and retain a card therein ears integral With said rear member and extending rearwardly at substantially right angles to said rear member, holes provided in said ears to receive a bolt secured to a belt retaining member and a lip integral With the end of said outer compartment opposite to the pivotal 10 means and adapted to engage the end of the rear portion to retain it in locked position.
