-GARMENT-FORM.
Be it known that I, AUGUST J. LUNDBERG, a citizen of the United,` States, and resident of the town ofWeehawkem-Hudson county, New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garment-Forms, of which the following. is a specification.
This invention relatesto garment forms. The object of the invention is to provide an improved article of-this nature so con-` structed that it may be made from heavy. paper or cardboardand adapted in a simple and very economical structure to provide means serving to retain the shape of the garment when saidl garment is packed in a box for shipment or serving as a hanger for the support of said garments when desired. Further objects land advantages of the invention will be set forth in the detailed description which now followszj In the accompanying drawing: Figure 1 illustrates vthe blank from which the garment form is made. A Fig. 2 is a perspective view illustrating the parts of the blank bent,
folded and secured to retain the molded form. Fig. 3 is a sectional view through the upper or neck portion of the form.
` clined slits l Like numerals designate corresponding parts in all of the figures of the drawing.
The flatblank lshown in Fig. 1 comprises a body portion 5 and a neck portion 6. A transverse strip 7 forming a continuation of the neck portion is creased upon the lines 8, 9 and 10 to provide flaps 11, 12 and 13, the creasing of the material along the lines 8, 9 and 10 nrendering it possible to readily bend the flaps to the position illustrated in Fig. 2, where they sei-veas a support for the upper portion of the form when the latter is placed in a boX. When the structure is to serve as a hanger, these flaps are bent together upon each other, as shown in Fig. 3, bringing the openings 14, 15 and 16, into alinement. These flaps at this time reinforce the structure to such anextent that the entire form with the garment thereon may be hung upon a nail, hook oroother s 'upport without danger of the opening tearlng out.
, The body ortion 5 is provided with inand l19 and with horizontal slits 19 and 20. Inwardly and upwardly directed slits 21 and 22 separate the lower outer portions of the body from a tail 23 provided with -a horizontal slit-24, The

with ' tabs 27 and 28. The material of the s wings 1s creased along'the lines 29 and 30 and inthe general direction of the slits 17 and 18, The material of the body is creased at 31 and 32 alongthe division line between the wingsand the tail 23. The. provision of these slits and creases forms hinge connections between the wings and body portion and when the lower ends of the wings are brought inwardly these hinges bend along the creases 29-31 and 30,-32,allow ing the slit 24 to hold the same in position @EN QLFFCE. ,i

with the center of the form bulged outwardly, as shown in Fig. 2. It will be seen that the entire structure is. thus broughtto a molded form; in other words it conforms to the general shape of the garment and same being crushed or creased during shipment. The form not only` bulges upwardly. lengthwise of the structure, but it is also held in bulged formation transversely there- .of. This, together with the flaps 11, 12 and 13, results in supporting the breast or bustr of the garment away from thebottom of the box in which the form is placed, there- .75 supports the latter in a box preventing the vention. is not limited to the precise construction set forth, but that it' includes within lits purview whateverr is new that comes within the spirit of the'- appended claims.
Having described my invention, whatI claim is:
1. In a'device'of the character described,
a body portion formed of cardboard having a pair ofslits within the body portion' forming wings upon opposite sides of said body portion, hinge portions extending from the lower end of said slits tothe lower edge of the bodyportion and wings connecting said wings and body portion atopposite edges, said wings and hinge portionsbeing adapted to fold over upon the body portionj to produce the required form 1n the device,
and means securing such 'wings. in their folded position. Y H
2. In a device of the character described, a bodv portion formedof cardboard land provided with a slit, wings connected therewith by hinge portions and adapted to be folded -and engaged with said slit to there by bring the cardboard to bulged formation,
and flaps at the upper portion of the device arranged to be bent to support said device in spaced relation to the bottom of the box.
3. In a device of the character described, a blank made of a single piece of cardboard having a pair of angular slits extending downwardlyand inwardly within the body thereof, and a second pair of slits converging upwardly and inwardly from the lower edge thereof, the said blank having creases therein extending downwardly from opposite ends of the said inwardly extending portions of the first mentioned slits, whereby the side portions of the blank may be folded inwardly upon the central' portion of the blank, and means for retaining such side portions in their folded position.
Signed at the city, county and State of New York, this 17th day of March, 1915.
AUGUST J. LUNDBERG.
