FOLDING BOX \OR CONTAINER Filed April 13, 1927 g /9 I I 5 Patented Oct. 15, 1929 UNITED STATES ISAAC APPELBAUM, OE PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA FOLDING BOX OR CONTAINER Application filed April 13,
My invention relates to a novel construction of a folding box or container and comprises a novel construction of blank having side flaps, locking tabs, a hangerfiap and a handle arranged and collocated in a novel manner with respect to each other and to the body of the'blank, whereby when the blank is folded as hereinafter described, a
'very neat, compact and durable folding box or container is produced which is securely held in assembled position, and which can be utilized not only as a carrier for ladies garments and other apparel or the like, but can also be used to hold such apparel suspended in a closet or the like.
It further consists of a novel construction of a folding box or container having a hanger flap, side flaps and a handle on one portion of the blank from which the container is formed, the other portion of the blank being provided with locking tabs, and a novel construction' and arrangement of creases whereby my novel box or container is produced.
It further consists of other novel features of construction and advantage, all as will be hereinafter pointed out in the specification and claims appended hereto.
For the purpose of illustrating myt invention, I have shown in the accompanying drawings forms thereof which are preferred by me since they will give in practice satis factory and reliable results, although it is to be understood that the Various instrumentalities of which my invention consists can be variously arranged and organized and that my invention is not limited to the precise arrangement and organization of these instrumentalities as herein shown and described.
Figure 1 represents a plan view of a blank from which my novel construction of fold ing box or container is produced.
F igure 2 represents a. perspective view showing the folding box or container in partly folded condition.
Figure 3 represents a side View of the completed box or container.
Figure 4 represents 4 4 Figure 3.
Similar numerals of reference indicate cora section on the line 1927. Serial No. 183,365.
responding parts in the figures. Referring to the drawings.
In carrying out In invention I employ a novel construction 0 blank of substantially lines 4 and 5. The parallel longitudinally extending lines 6 indicate longitudinal creases or scorings which are continued to form the creases or scorings 7 which form the boundary for the body portion 2 said creases or scorings G forming the outer boundary for the body portion 3. The dotted lines 8 represent a pair of outer creases or scorings which are parallel with the lines 6 and serve to form the side flaps 9 having the ends 10 which are coincident with the transverse creases 5 and the ends 11 which are coincident with the outer'right hand crease or scoring 12.
13 designates the end flap which has the cut out portion 14 which when the blank is laid out flat inclosesgthe handle member 15 as will be understood from the right hand portion of Figure 1. The outer edges 16 of the body portion 2 are coincident with the parallel creases or scorings 8 and form the outer sides of the body 2 which latter at the left hand portion is provided with the parallel creases or scorings 17 and 18. The side look ing tabs for the" body portion 2 are-indicated at 19, and the end locking tabs which are preferably three in number are indicated at 20 and 21, the two outer tabs being indicated at 20, and the inner or central tab being indicated at 21. When the blank is folded in the operative position, the side flaps 9 assume the position seen in Figure 2, and the hanger flap 13 is folded inwardly as seen in Figure 2, leaving the handle 15 standing as seen in said figure. The central locking tab 21 engages the central slot 22, and the two outer end locking tabs 20 engage the slots 23. The inner locking tabs 19 engage the slots 21, and the outer locking tabs 19 engage the outer slots 25.
It will be apparent that when the side flaps 9 are bent as indicated in Figure 2. a well defined wall 26 will be formedbetween the scorings 6 and 8, and the capacity of the box or container can be readily-increased or diminished according to requirements. Between the scorings 17 and l8, seen at the left of Fig: ure 1, a well defined wall 27 is formed which forms the top of the box or container when 7 the same is closed, as will be understood from Figure 4.
It will also be noted that the space between the scorings 4: and 5 serves as the bottom for the container when the blank is bent into the positionseen in Figure 4:.
If desired a transverse retaining strip as indicated at 28, in Figures 1, 2 and 4 may be employed, said strip being of paper, cardboard, cloth or other material, and serves to 'hold a garment 29 contained within the container nicely in'folded position. It will be understood that the blank 1 can be composed of any suitable material as paper of the requisite thickness, card board 'or the like, and
" the same can be impregnated with any suitable material such as a suitable germieide or insecticidewhich will be offensive to moths,
q are formed which fold against and enclose thewalls 26, as will be understood from Fig."
3, so that thecontents of the container are adequately closed and protected on all four sides.
n It will now be apparentthat I have devised a novel and useful construction which embodies the features of advanta 'e enumerated as desirablein the statement of the invention sisting of two body portions, divided by trans and the above description, and while I have in the present instance. shown and described the preferred embodiment thereof which has been found in practice to give satisfactory and reliable results, it is to be understood that the same is susceptible of modification in various particulars Without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention or sacrificing any of its advantages.
