3 Claims.
The invention relates to a container, as described in the present specification and illustrated in theA accompanying drawing which form part of the same.
The invention consists essentially of the novel features of construction pointed out broadly and specifically. in the claims for novelty following a description containing an explanation in detail of an acceptable form of the invention.
The objects of the invention are rto cut up blanks to form containers in such away that the waste of material which ordinarily takes place will be materially reduced and the amount of material utilized in making the container will be considerably less than that used for the ordinary box construction, sothat. not only will there be saving in the .material but also in the assembly; to devise a container that may be adapted for all sorts of purposes such as for the transportation of clothing, cigarettes and cigar packages and for innumerable other articles; to furnish a container that when used for dresses, coats and the like may be converted into a hanger for the apparel and thereby save floor space; to enable shopkeepers in establishments and other places to utilize the container for hanging up the articles and when selling such articles to the customer to convert the hangers into containers which will keep the article in good condition and prevent them from getting creased or soiled during transportation; and generally to provide a container that will be durable in construction, attractive in appearance and suitable with slight modifications, for many commodities.
In the drawing, Figure 1 is an elevational view of the blank forming a container.
Figure 2 is an elevational view of the container converted into a hanger for the garment.
Figure 3 is a perspective View of the hanger as again converted into a container.
Figure 4 is a perspective View of the container in its closed position.
Figure 5 is a detail of the handle for the container.
Figure 6 is a modied form of blank suitable for cigar and cigarette packages.
Figure 7 is a perspective View of the modified form of container.
Like numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in the various figures.
Referring to the drawing, the container may be made from stiff cardboard or any suitable material and is cut out into a blank as indicated by the numeral 10 having the side flaps 11 and 12 and the end aps 13 and 14.
(o1. zoe-"1) The side aps 11 and 12 have the ap joints 15 and 16 and 17 and 18 which also form a part of the bottom 19 and the top 20. The extension aps 21 'and 22 of the side flaps 1l and 12 have the transverse slots 23 and 24 and the longitudinal slots 25 and 26.
The end flap 13 which is an extension of the bottom 19 curves inwardly atv the side 27 and has projecting tongues 28 and 29 having the retaining lips 30, the end flap 13 having the slots 31.
The end flap 14 which is van extension ofthe top 20 has the side flanges 3 2 and 33 and terminates in the hook portion 34 which may be formed in any convenient shape` so as to form the hanger, the' latter having a pivoted reinforcement 35 shapedsimilar to the hanger 36 and adapted tombe pivoted into alignment lwith the hanger portion so 'as toform a doublereinforcing hook 37.
i The handle 38 Vhas the side retaining lips 39 at each end and adapted to engage with the slots 40 of the top 20, and the lips turned outwardly so as to retain the handle in position.
In folding the various parts of the container, the side aps are folded inwardly and the lower end ap turned upwardly so that the tongues f thereof will fit in the transverse slots of the extension flaps thereby closing in the bottom of the container and forming a receptacle for the garment or other article.
The upper end flap which really forms the that case the side flaps are folded inwardly and the container in its extended position is adapted to be slipped inside the garment and hung up in any suitable place by means of its hook portion and the side iianges of the upper portion of the container will serve as a means for keeping the garment in place and the shoulders of the garment will fit over the flanges, thereby keeping their shape.
In the modied form of the invention the container is shown as suitable for a cigar or cigarette 1 1 package 41 and follows similar construction to that of the garment container with the exception that there is no hook portion whatsoever or side flanges, the cover portion 42 simply terminates in the lip 43 which engages in the slot 44 of the bottom 45.
In this particular form it will be noted that the contents of the container may be easily removed and at the same time the material in making such a container is very much less than the ordinary cigar or cigarette package as constructed at the present time.
What I claim is:
1. A container comprising'a blank formed of top, side, bottom and end pieces integrally hinged together, a central portion of said blank adapted to form one side of the container, a lower portion of said blank adapted to form part of the top sides in the closed position, an upper portion adapted to form part of the top andrhaving-a central portion projecting from the upper free edge thereof and having laterally extending edges and having an aperture therein adapted to engage a support, and said free edge extending inclined downwardly on both sides of said projecting portion to meet the sides of said upper portion at a point where the sides extend to form projecting locking flaps having their upper extremities extending as garment stops, slots in said side pieces to engage said locking iiaps, andV locking means in said lower portion to receive said projecting portionin the closed position of the container.

A container comprising a blank formed of top, side, bottom and end pieces integrally hinged together, a central portion of said blank adapted v to form one side of the container, the lower por` tion of saidblank having locking means adapted to `engage the sides in the closed position, lthe upper portion of said blank having on its upper free edge a central projecting portion having later- Y ally extending edges and having an inverted hooki and having locking means adapted to engage the like portion therebetween closely enclosing an aperture opening to the upper edge thereof adapted to engage a support, and said free edge extending inclined downwardly on both sides of said projecting portion to meet the sides of said upper portion at a point Where the sides extend to form projecting locking aps lhaving their upper extremities extending as garment stops, slots in said side pieces to engage said locking flaps, and slots in said lower portion adapted to engage said hooklike portion and projecting portions in the closed position of the container.
