Be it known that I, BRYCE P. GIBBS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Long Beach, in the county ofLos Angeles and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pen and Pencil Holders, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to the subject of pen and pencil holders, and has special reference to a novel construction thereof which will accommodate a plurality of pens and pencils, and also a calendar or other memorandum card.

It is desirable to have a container that completely houses the greater part of pens or pencils, so that they are protected from breakage, and at the same time held in a secure position to prevent them from falling out and becoming lost. Accordingly, the present invention contemplates a device that may be easily inserted in the pocket of a wearer or attached to a garment in such a manner that it will always be handy and ready for use, and at the same time protect the clothes from becoming soiled or stained from ink or pencil leads.

Another feature of the invention resides in its novel assembly of parts which are few, simple, and inexpensive while at the same time durable and serviceable, thereby .rendering the invention capable of a practical commercial embodiment which renders the same particularly useful as an advertising novelty, though it will of course be understood that it is capable of being made in neat and attr'active form which will increase its value as an article of personal wear.

With the above and other objects in view which will more readily appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel construction, combination, and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, illustrated, and claimed.

A preferred and practical embodiment of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a plan view of the stamped metal blank from which the invention is formed. In carrying out the present invention, any suitable material may be employed, though tin or similar pliable sheet metal is preferred, thus making the holder inexpensive to construct, and at the same time, light and serviceable. However, in some embodiments of the device the metal body may be covered with leather or other suitable ornamental material thus making it more attractive when manufactured for sale.

With particular reference to the construction shown in the several figures of the '1 drawings, it will be observed that Fig. l shows a plan view of the container blank l from which the holder is formed. The said blank .l is provided with a back wall. portion 2 and a front wall portion 3, and an intermediate bottom wall portion 4.-. The back wall portion l is provided with the side wall attaching flanges 5 and also with the lining securing edges 6, while the front wall 3 is stamped to provide the wing-like side walls 7 and a lining clamping edge 8. The attaching flanges 5 on each side of the back wall portion 2, and the side wall 7 on the front wall portion 3, have provided there between laterally extended lining clamping ears 9 which extend from both sides of the bottom portion 4.

The resilient deflecting leaf l0, the blank for which is shown in Fig. 2, is provided at its top edge with laterally projecting attaching ears 1l, the purpose of which will hereinafter more fully appear.

In assembling the container, a layer of felt or equivalent material l2 is preferably placed upon the area of the blank 1 bounded by the dotted lines a, c and Z shown in Fig. l, and the lining clamping edges 6 of the back wall portion 2 are folded over to clamp and protect the felt, as are likewise the lining clamping ears 9 carried by the bottom portion 4L, and the edge 8 of the front wall portion 3. The side wall attaching flanges 5 of the back wall portion 2 are bent forwardly at right angles to the body of the blank, while the side walls 7 carried by the front wall 3 are bent rearwardly so that when the blank is doubled upon itself, to

I claim;

1. A pen and pencil holder including a container body formed ofa single piece of sheet metal doubled upon itself to form a pocket and having lining clamping edge portions and oppositely disposed side Walls Vand securing flanges, said side Walls and ,flanges being arranged in spaced apart pairs on opposite sides of the bend 0f the blank and disposed in overlapping relation, and pencil gripping means Within said pocket.
