2 Claims. 01. z4-s1 This invention relates to a device adapted to hold a pack of cigarettes, and adapted further to hold a lipstick, lighter, match book, or similarly shaped article.
The main object of the present invention is to provide an article of manufacture which will be particularly adapted to be used by ladies as a highly attractive holder for cigarettes, matches, lipstick, etc.
Another object of importance is to provide an article as described which will be so designed as to facilitate its being attractively, ornamented exteriorly thereof, without detracting from the functional advantages of the holder.
Yet another object is to so design the cigarette pack holder as to permit the same to be readily formed of molded plastic or the like, of relatively springable or resiliently yieldable parts, that can be readily spread to facilitate the insertion of a package of cigarettes, lipstick, match book, etc., said par-ts when released gripping the inserted objects securely.
Still another object is to so design the portion of the device that holds the lipstick, cylindrical lighter, or the like as to permit the same to be readily adapted for holding'lighters of different diameters.
Other objects will appear from the following description, the claims appended thereto, and from the annexed drawing, in which like reference characters designate like parts throughout the several views, in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevational view of a holder formed in accordance with the invention, in association with a lipstick and package of cigarettes;
Figure 2 is a rear elevational view, showing the book of matches supported at the back of the device;
Figure 3 is a top plan view; and
Figure 4 is a rear perspective view of the holder per se.
The reference numeral has been applied generally to a pack of cigarettes, inserted in a holder 12 formed in accordance with the present invention. The holder can be formed of molded plastic or the like, and includes an elongated length of material shaped to include parallel side portions 14, 16 integral with parallel front and back portions 18, 20 respectively. The portion 20, at one end, terminates just short of the adjacent portion 14, defining an opening or throat 22. The portions 14, 20 are relatively springable toward and away from one another, to facilitate insertion or removal of a pack of cigarettes 10. When the cigarettes have been inserted, the portions 14, 20 are released, and this causes said portions to spring into gripping engagement with said package of cigarettes. Of course, the portions need not be manually spread for insertion of the cigarette, and the package inself can be used to force the portions 14, 20 apart to the necessary extent.
Fixedly secured to the midlength part of the front portion 18 is a gripping member, generally indicated at 24, which has a pair of resilient arcuate legs 23 and 23' with their concave faces in confronting spaced relation. A lipstick designated generally at 25 is adapted to be engaged between the legs 23 and 23' of the gripping member 24,
the arcuate legs of said member being resiliently spread apart to facilitate insertion of said lipstick. Member 24, at the free ends of the legs may have enlarged heads to hold lipstick 25 in place therein.
At opposite sides of the member 24, there are fixedly secured to the outer surface of the portion 18 ornamental objects 28, such as roses, or other flowers. These can be in colors contrasting to those of the portions 14 through 20, to increase the -attractiveness of the device.
It will be understood that if desired, a cylindrical lighter can be used in place of the lipstick 25.
The portion 14, at that end thereof adjacent the opening or throat 22, is integrally formed with an elongated clip element 30, curved longitudinally and bowed outwardly medially between its ends from the adjacent back wall portion 20. The clip 30, at its free end, is spaced closely from the portion 20, to facilitate insertion of an article such as a package of book matches 34. An ornamental object, such as a simulated bow 32, is fixedly secured to the outer surface of the clip 30 and substantially conceals the full area of the clip.
The clip 30 is resiliently sprung outwardly from the portion 20, to facilitate insertion of the matches, or removal of said matches, whenever desired.
The device can be used in various ways, to hold selected articles. For example, if a lighter is engaged in the member 24 either spare book matches or lipstick matches may be held by and between the clip 30 and the back wall portion 20. Alternatively, if a lipstick 25 is held as in Figure l, the clip 30 can be used for holding book matches.
The device provides, in a compact, attractive unit, means for holding in intimate relationship a package of cigarettes a lighter or lipstick, and lipstick or book matches. All these articles are used at frequent intervals by ladies, and the holder provides an attractive device which can be displayed at such intervals whenever one or the other of the articles is to be used.
It is believed apparent that the invention is not necessarily confined to the specific use or uses thereof described above, since it may be utilized for any purpose to which it may be suited. Nor is the invention to be necessarily limited to the specific construction illustrated and described, since such construction is only intended to be illustrative of the principles of operation and the means presently devised to carry out said principles, it being considered that the invention comprehends any minor change in construction that may be permitted within the scope of the appended claims.
What is claimed is:
1. A holder for a cigarette package of the type having a rectangular cross section, and for an associated match book, comprising; a one-piece band of a resilient material, formed to a width such that it will girdle a cigarette package belt-fashion intermediate opposite ends of the package while leaving said ends exposed, said band including a flat front portion proportioned to extend across the front of said package fully from one side of the package to a location short of but spaced closely from the other side thereof, a flat first side portion integral at one end with one end of the front portion and lying in a plane normal to that of the front portion, a flat back portion integral at one end with the other end of the first side portion and'lying in a plane paralleling that of the front portion, said back portion being longer than the front portion to an extent sufficient for extension of the back portion the full distance across the back of the package, a flat second side portion lying in a plane paralleling that of the first side portion and integral at one end with the other end of the back portion, said first and second side portions projecting forwardly from the back portion with the second side portion projecting a greater distance from the back portion than does the first side portion, said second side portion projecting forwardly beyond the plane of the front portion and being spaced at its front end from the other end of the front portion, and a clip element integral at one end with the front end of the second side portionand extending in front of the front portion the full distance between the side portions, the other ends of the front portion and clip element being free with the other end of the front portion being disposed in back of said one end of the clip element and the other end of the clip element being disposed in front of said one end of the front portion, said front portion and clip element being resiliently, yieldably spreadable responsive to the insertion of a book of matches therebetween for gripping of said package between the front and back portions and gripping of said book of matches between the clip element and front portion.
2. A holder for a cigarette package of the type having a rectangular cross section, and for an associated match book, comprising: a one-piece band of a resilient mate rial, formed to a width such that it will girdle a cigarette package belt-fashion intermediate opposite ends of the package while leaving said ends exposed, said band including a flat front portion proportioned to extend across the front of said package fully from one side of the package to a location short of but spaced closely from the other side thereof, a fiat first side portion integral at one end with one end of the front portion and lying in a plane normal to that of the front portion, a flat back portion integral at one end with the other end of the first side portion and lying in a plane paralleling that of the front portion, said back portion being longer than the front portion to an extent sufiicient for extension of the back portion the full distance across the back of the package, a flat second side portion lying in a plane paralleling that of the first side portion and integral at one end with the other end of the back portion, said first and second side portions projecting forwardly from the back portion with the second side portion projecting a greater distance from the back portion than does the first side portion, said second side portion projecting forwardly beyond the plane of the front portion and being spaced at its front end from the other end of the front portion, and a clip element integral at one end with the front end of the second side portion and extending in front of the front portion the full distance between the side portions, the other ends of the front portion and clip element being free with the other end of the front portion being disposed in back of said one end of the clip element and the other end of the clip element being disposed in front of said one end of the front portion, said front portion and clip element being resiliently, yieldably spreadable responsive to the insertion of a book of matches therebetween for gripping of said package between the front and back portions and gripping of said book of matches between the clip element and front portion, said clip'elernent being longitudinally curved from end to end thereof and being bowed outwardly from the flat front portion for wedging engagement of the sides of the inserted match book between the ends of the clip element and front portion.
