Be it known that I, HYMAN ALBAN, a citizen of vthe United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Pockets, of which the following is a specification.

The primary purpose of this invention is the provision of a pocket for the wearing apparel of men and youths to be placed 1n position when the original pocket becomes worn so as not to safely hold articles placed therein.

The invention in its specific adaptation provides a side pocket for trousers to be slipped into thev original pocket and provided with fastening means for securingit in place, thereby avoiding the necessity for stitching and overcoming the urgency for repairing or mending the worn pocket.

rlhe invention consists of the novel features, details of construction and combination of parts, which hereinafter will be more particularly set forth, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and pointed out in the appended claim.

Referringto the drawing, forming a part of the specification, Figure l is a detail view, showing the application of the invention. Fig. 2 is a detail view of a pocket embodying the invention to be slipped within a worn pocket to take the place thereof. Fig. 3 is a detail view, showing more clearly the fastening means for securing the auxiliary or supplemental pocket within the main pocket.

Corresponding and like parts are referred 'to in the following description, and indicated in all the views of the drawing, by the same reference characters.

Inasmuch as the invention is specially adapted for mens and youths trousers it is shown for use in this connection in the accompanying drawing, the auxiliary or supplemental pocket being of the general outline of the usual side pocket.

The numeral l designates a part of a pair of trousers and 2 the ordinary side pocket. To avoid confusion the pocket 2 is designated as the main pocket and 3 the auxiliary or supplemental pocket, which is slipped into the main pocket and secured in place therein. The auxiliary or supplemental pocket 3 is of the general outline of the main pocket 2 and may be constructed in a similar manner either of one or more pieces. The pocket 3 is open at one side, as indicated at 4, such opening corresponding with the side opening of the main'pocket 2 so as to register therewith. The pocket 3 is 'somewhat smaller than the main pocket 2 soas to Vavoid any fullness or wrinkling.v The lower ends of the side piecesv comprising the pocket 3 are hemstitched or secured in any manner'to prevent loose edge portions, thereby avoiding the formation of a welt in the lower part of the main pocket when the auxiliary pocket is in position. It is to be understood that the auxiliary pockets 3 are provided in rights and lefts for the different sides of the trousers. The edge portion of the front side of the pocket 3 bordering .upon the opening 4 extends slightly beyond the edge portion of the rear side so as to come close to the outer edge of the front portion of the main pocket, wherbyhe hand may be easily introduced into the pocket when required. Fastenings 5 are secured to the upper and lower portions of the forward edge portion of the pocket 3 bordering upon the opening 4 and are adapted to engage the forward edge portion of the main pocket 2 so as to retain the supplemental pocket in position when slippedl into the main pocket. Each of the fastenings 5 is of the nature of a clip, one member being secured to the edge portion ofthe pocket 3 and the other member adapted to engage the forward edge portion of the main pocket 2. The fastenings 5 consist of metal and are secured to the pocket 3 between the folded portions thereof, the projecting portions of the fastenings extending through slits formed in the fold.

When the main pocket 2 of a garment becomes thread bare or worn through so as to render it unsafe to place articles therein an auxiliary or supplemental pocket 3 may be v obtained and slipped into the main pocket and secured therein by means of the fastenings 5 in the manner herein stated, said auxiliary pocket performing the office of the main pocket and avoiding the necessity for repairing or replacing the main pocket which is not always convenient and which frequently entails a greater expense than the application of the auxiliary pocket.
