Specification of Letters Patent.
ratei-reed nee. is,
T0 all who/n t may concern Be it known that i, GEORGE H. Vrnonav'r,
a citizen of the United States, residingr at Velty, in the county of Okfuskee, State of 4 Oklahoma3 have invented certain new and.
useful Improvements in yCotton-Picking Devices; and I do hereby declare the ollovving to be a full, clear, and exact description o the invention,'snch as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to cotton pickingdevices.
The object of the invention resides in the provision of a device oi the character named adapted to be vWorn on the hand and which will facilitate the operation of picking the cotton and in addition protect the hand of the user.
A further object of the invention. resides in the provision of a cotton picking device which will be simple in construction, easily applied to and removed from the hands, and
which can be manufactured at a compara tively small coste With the above' and other objects in View the inventionv consists in the details of construction and in 'the arrangement and cornbination, of parts to be hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
In describing the invention indetail reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters' or' refer ence Vdenote corresponding parts in the several views, and in Whichv Figure l is a perspective view showing the device applied to the-hand; Fig. 2, a perspective view of the device detached; Fig. 3, a perspective lview of one of the clamping elements of-the device, and Fig. li, a plan`view of one of the iierible strips of the device before a clamping element is attached thereto.
Referring-,to the drawings the improved cotton picking device is shown as comprising a flexible Wrist band 10 provided With a buckle 11 whereby same may be easily applied to and removed from the Wrist.
The device further embodies four finger strips 12 having their inner ends attached to the Wrist band'l() and provided respectively With longitudinal openings.r 13. Secured to the free end of each finger strip 12 is a clamping member A which includes a Y ring body portion le having an extension 15 on one end thereof and said extension beingfprovided on one end with a laterally bent portion 16. Formed on the side et' the extension 15 remote from the ring body le is a lug-17 having its outer end roughened or serrated asat 18. The ring body 14: is provided. with clenching fingers 19 which engaged through the outer end of a finger stripl l2 and then clenchedto secure the clamping member to the finger strip as clearly shown in the drawing.
In applying the device the band i0 is li-rst secured to the vvrist and the strips 12 carried over the backs of the first three fingers of the hand and the thumb respectively,4
the'ends or' the fingers and thumb being en gaged through the ring bodies le and against the inner sides of respective exten-1 sions l5. with the hands it will be obvious that the cotton can be picked With facility by clamp ing .same between the lug 18 carried by the thumb and the lugs 18 carried by the i'ingers. It will be further obvious that the openings 13 will permit movement ofthe thumb and 'lingers without possibility of rendering the strips l2 taut.
What is claimed is 1 1. A cotton picking device comprising a plurality ci' Iringer strips feach having at one end a linger receiving member provided with a gripping device on what constitutes its inner face in use, each of said strips being slotted adjacent to the finger receiving member in position to receive the second joint of the linger when in use1 and means connecting the other ends of the strips and adapted for holding them in position upon the backs oi. the fingers of an operator with the gripping devices disposed on the inside of the lingers.
2. A cotton picking device comprising a plurality flexible strips adapted to be lpositioned along the back of the thumb and fingers, said strips being provided with openings through Which the thumb and iingers are adapted to Work, rings secured to said strips at one end and engageable over the thumb and fingers respectively, and extensions on the outer ends of said rings po sitioned to be disposed against and on the inside of the thumb and fingers respectively With the device thus associata-:dy
' when the device is in place, and means connecting the other ends of the strips and ends of said vringe, endl'studs on said extfesion'sfhavng serra'ced.v outer ends. said extensions and st'us being poitoned so as te be disposed on the melde ofthe @web and fingers when the devlce 1s m place;
11 testimony whereof, I afx my signe lture, m the presence of two wltnesees.
