J. BOCIEK I SWIMMING GLOVE Filed Mai 12, 1924 QJPO/V/I/ 0 C/Ek INVENTDR ATTORNEY Patented Apr. 28, 1925.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN BOGIEK, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
S\VIIMMING GLOVE.
Application filed May 12,
To all whom it may cow warn.
Be it known that 1, JOHN 130011511, a citi zen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Swimming Gloves, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a swimming glove and has for its primary object the construction of a glove having the required flexibility so as to be readily manipulated by the hand.
An object of the invention is the novel manner of arranging and attaching finger loops so that the finger loops will be effectively connected to the body while giving the required amount of flexibility to the Va rious fingers and more particularly to the thumb.
A feature of my invention is the use of an individual thumb loop strip so as to allow the thumb and its associated portion of the body to be properly shaped to brii'ig about the most efficient engagement between the body and the volume of water.
lVith these and. other objects in view the invention will be better understood from the following detailed description taken in. connection with the accompanying drawing wherein 2 Fig. 1 is a plan view of the glove.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view on the line 22 of Fig. 1.
Again referring to the drawing illustrating one of the many constructions 'of my ii'nrentiou the numeral 1 designates ahand shaped flexible body to the small end. 2 of which is attached the adjustable wrist strap 2. The inner strip i and outer strip 5 have spaced portions sewed to the body as indicated at G to form an inner and outer series of finger loops 7. To oompletethe invention I attach to the body an individual 1924. set-m1 No. 712,869.
outer thumb looped strip 8. The strips l and 5 are preferably curved transversely of the body in order that the finger loops 7 will be properly positioned to receive the respective fingers which are to be positioned within the loops provided for.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing it will be seen that the cost of manufacture of the article is greatly reduced without sacrificing the advantages. It will also be noted that the fingers of the operator are engaged at spaced points so as to insure the effective grip between the body and hand and this action is increased by the novel arrangement of the wrist strap.
It is, of course, to be understood that the exact shape and manner of associating the parts may be changed at will without departing from the spirit of this invention,
therefore I do not desire to be limited in any manner except as set forth in the claim here-- unto appended.
Having thus described my invention what I claim is:
A swimming glove comprising a fan-- shaped flexible body, an adjustable wrist strap connected to the smaller end of the body, spaced curved strips attached to the body by transverse rows of stitching arranged in spaced relation to form finger loops longitudinally of the strips, one of said strips being extended entirely across the body to form an individual loop for each of the fingers and thumb of the hand, the other strip being extended partially across the body to form loops for the fingers of the hand and an individual. outer thumb sewed to the body and disposed in alignment with the thumb on the first mentioned strip.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
JOHN BOCIEK.
