Description

A. WARNE. TOBACCO BOX. APPLICATION FILED DEG. 23, 1912.
Patented Jan. 5, 1915.
awuudo'n ALFRED WARNE, OF MIAMI, FLORIDA.
TOBACCO-BOX.
Application filed December 23, 1912.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ALFRED WVARNE, citizen of the United States, residing at Miami, in the county of Dade and State of Florida, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in TobaccoBoxes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improvement in tobacco boxes.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a tobacco box of the usual form with compartments for matches, cleaners, &c., whereby the receptacle, which may be conveniently carried, may contain all of the necessary smokers articles.
A further object of the invention is to provide a construction which may be readily applied to the usual box in which pipe tobacco is vended.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a perspective view; Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view.
In the drawings, 10 designates a substantially rectangular box which is provided with the hinged cover 11. A strip of resilient metal 12 is arranged within the box, said strip being curved at the points 13, the terminals 14 being secured to the end walls 15 of the box adjacent the rear wall 16. The edge 17 of the box is provided with a flange 18 which prevents displacement of the strip. It will be noted that when the strip is flexed and inserted within the receptacle that its end portions will be disposed beneath the in wardly disposed flange formed by the beading 18. Thus the partition members will be effectually supported within the receptacle, attention being called to the fact that the same can be removed by bending the terminals of the strip inwardly. The intermediate portion 19 of the strip is spaced from the front wall 20 of the box forming a compartment 21 in which may be placed pipe cleaners, the compartment being of sufficient length to receive the cleaners without bending, extending the full length of the box and for a portion of its sides.
A transverse partitioning member 22 is arranged adjacent each end of the box, extending between the longitudinal partitioning member 12 and the rear wall 16 of the box, dividing the space between the member 12 and the rear wall of the box into three Specification of Letters Patent.

compartments. The central compartment 23 receives the tobacco, and the two smaller compartments 24 and 25 may be used as match compartments. A lid 26 is hingedly supported by the upper edges of the transverse partitions 22, the lids when closed extending beneath the flange 18 which is sufliciently resilient to allow the edges of the lids to snap therebeneath yet at the same time preventing their accidental displacernent.
When the box is constructed with the partitioning members, the ends 27 of the transverse partitioning members and the ends 14L of the longitudinal partitioning members are soldered or otherwise secured to the box, but where the device is applied to the usual form of box the longitudinal member 12 is flexed and inserted beneath the flange, the flange also acting as a locking means for the lids supported by the transverse partitioning members.
The many advantages of a construction of this character will be clearly apparent, as it will be noted that the device forms a convenient receptacle for smokers accessories, which may be easily and economically manufactured, and which, while of such dimensions as to hold a number of articles, is light and may be conveniently carried. It will also be noted that the construction may be economically manufactured both when the partitioning members are placed within the box prior to the packaging of the tobacco, or after the box has been emptied.
Having thus described my invention, what I I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A receptacle including bottom, side and end walls, the edges of the end walls and one of the side walls being formed with an inwardly disposed flange, a longitudinally disposed partitioning member comprising a strip of resilient material, flexed adjacent its end portions, said end portions extending beneath the flange of the end walls, adjacent one of the side walls whereby a substantially semi-circular compartment is formed, transverse partitioning members supported by the longitudinal partitioning member and one of the side walls of the receptacle, lids hingedly mounted on the transverse partitioning members and dispartitioningmember, said terminals being in 10 posed when closed to engage beneath the engagement with the flanged Walls and disflanges of the end-Walls. posed beneath the flanges.
2. A receptacle including side and end In testimony whereof I aflix my signature 5 Walls, two opposite Walls having inwardly exin presence of two Witnesses.
tending flanges, and a removable partition- ALFRED \VARNE. [Ls] ing member formed of resilient material and \Vitnesses:
having flexed terminals extending at an JAMEs T. Sennnns,
