To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, THOMAS WV. BAR- THOLOMEW, a citizen of the United States, residing at Danville, in the county of Montour and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Snap-Tag, of which the following is a specification.

The present invention appertains to tags, and aims to provide a novel and improved snap tag applicable to various articles, and arranged to hold or contain a slip containing or bearing the owners name and address.

It is the object of the present invention to provide a snap tag of the nature indi cated, which will be of unique construction, to enable it to be conveniently andefliec tively employed for holding a slip for the purposes indicated, the present device being relatively small, in order that it may be applied to various objects without encumbering the same, and the construction of the present device being such, as to not only render it inexpensive and simple, but to also render the device neat and attractive in appearance.

lVith the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed,it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, can be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.

The invention has been illustrated in its preferred embodiment in the accompanying drawing, wherein Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device, with one of the caps removed or disengaged. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the device, parts being shown in section.

The present tag embodies a blank 1 of sheet metal or other suitable material, having one end portion bent to form a tube 2, and havin its other end portion forming a web 3 projecting radially from the tube 2. The tub 2 has both ends open and is split longitudinally, as will be apparent, and the web 3 projects from one of the edges of the split ortion of the tube, and is tapered or triangular in shape.

The tip or free corner portion of the web 3 is provided with an eyelet l, through which i engaged a suitable snap hook 5,

adapted to be engaged with various articles, to which the tag is to be applied. The web 3 is preferably provided with a transversely elongated opening 6 adjoining its basal portion or adjoining the tube 2 which is attached to the basal portion of the said web. The opening 6 is preferably of such contour, as to ornament the web 3, it being understood however, that the web may be otherwise punched or embossed, for purpose of design or appearance.

The tube 2 is provided at each side, with a longitudinal series of apertures or openings 7 and the bottom of the tube 2 is pro vided intermediate its ends with an instruck nib or lug 8 for the purposes which will hereinafter appear. Caps or closures 9are arranged to slip over the ends of the tube 2, and are provided with longitudinal open slots 10 in their flanges, which are arranged to engage over the edge portions of the web 3, when the caps are applied over the ends of the tube. A paper or other slip 11, bearing the name and address (not shown) of the owner of the article to which the tag is to be applied, is adapted to be inserted into the tube 2, when the slip 11 is rolled up, to enable the slip to be readily carried by the tag.

In practice, the tag is quite small in con struction in order that it will not encumber the article to which it is applied, and whereby the tag may be applied to keys, key rings, watches and other small articles to be carried in the pocket or the like. The several parts of the tag may be constructed of various suitable materials, and may be plated or otherwise finished for purpose of wear and appearance.

When one or both of the caps 9 are removed, the slip 11 when rolled up, may readily be inserted in the tube 2, so that the caps 9 in being applied to the ends of the tube 2 will close the ends thereof and will retain the slip 11 in place, it being observed that the slip 11 will be exposed through the apertures or openings 7 in the sides of the tube, so that the slip will be called to the attention of the finder of a lost article bearing the tag. The tag may be applied readily to various articles through the medium of the snap hook 5, the tag being readily applied to umbrellas, hand bags, suit cases, and divers other articles, which are liable to be inislaid or lost. Thus, should the article bearing the tag become mislaid or lost, the

finders attention would be directed to the tag, and to the slip 11 in the tube 2, which is exposed through the apertures or openings 7 so that the slip could readily be re- 5 moved by withdrawing the caps 9 from the tube, and then forcing the slip out of the tube 2-. This would enable the finder to determine the o-wners name and address in order that the article in question could be is restored or returned to the owner.

I It is to be noted thatv when the rolled slip 11 is inserted into the tube 2, the nib or lug 8 will serve to compress the central or intermediate portion of the slip 11, as sug- 15 gested in Fig. 2, to frictionally hold the slip in the, tube, even without the assistance of the caps or closures 9, if desired. It is also to be noted that when the caps 9 are applied to the ends of the tube, the slots 10 29 of the caps will engage, over the basal portion of the web 3, to assist in holding the caps in place, and to provide a compact arrangement and pleasing design or effect.

The present article or tag may be inexpensively manufactured, and has several desirable properties or salient features, which .will be apparent from the foregoing, taken caps adapted to be slipped over the ends of the tube and'having .open slots arranged t engage over the web In testimony that I claim the foregoing as w my own, I have hereto aifixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
