ham, England, steel-pen manufacturer, have invented" new and useful Improvements in Tag-Holding Clips, of which the following is a specification.

This invention consists of the hereindescribed improved clip for holding a price ticket orthe like on the top edge of the back of a book and for other like uses, such for instance as holding a price ticket or thelike on boots, china articles or any other small articles which are for sale.

My improved clip is very effectual for the purposes stated, and is of simple construction and cheap to manufacture as it is made in one piece from one thin sheet steel or other suitable sheet metal blank. Mysaid clip is so formed that it clips the back edge of a book or the edge of any other article to which the price ticket is to be attached, and it also holds the price ticket in a slanting position convenient to be read and in such a way that almost the whole of the clip itself is hidden from view behind the ticket.

I will describe my invention by referring to the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a projected view of my said improved clip; Fig; 2 shows the pierced sheet metal blank from which the clip shown in Fig. 1 has been formed; Fig. 3 is a sectional side elevation of the clip in use on the top edge of the back of a book holding a price ticket or the like and Fig. i is a, front elevation of the said clip holding a price ticket as in Fig. 3.

My improved clip is made from an elongated sheet steel or other suitable sheet metal blank 1, of the shape shown in Fig. 2, which is of an elongated form the main portion of the blank having one or more, preferably two. small projections 2, 3 at its bottom edge which, as shown in Fig. l, are bent upwardly almost against the lower portion 4 of the body part of the plate 1. thus'forming two clips adapted to receive and hold the lower edge of a price ticket such as 5 as in Figs. 3 and 4. The body part ofthe blank is pierced with a U-shaped slot 6 extending to nearly the top edge 7 ofthe blank so as to leave a central downwardly projecting tongue 8 which, as shown in Figs. 1 and 3, is bent outwardly at 9 from the top'part of the blank and is then bent inwardly slightly at 10 a short distance below the top and then across outwardly again so that the lower edge 11 of the tongue projects beyond the body part 1 which forms the back of the clip so that the back 12 of a book, or the thin edge of any article with which the clip is used, can, as shown in Fig. 3, be inserted between the tongue 8 and the body part 1 of the clip so that the friction set up will be sufiicient to hold the clip in position. The lower portion 13 of thebody part of the clip is bent forward at 14 as shown in Figs. 1 and 3, and the bottom part 4 of this bent forward port-ion 13 with which the tongues 2, 3, are formed, is bent downwardly slightly so. that when the ticket 5 is placed in position behind the spring tongues 2, 3, it will form about a straight line as in Fig. 5 from the tongues 2, 3, to the top edge 7 of the clip,

the lower part of the ticket 5 standing out slightly away from the book or other article to which it is attached.

It will be seen that the clip above dethe price ticket orthe like 5' under the clip tongues 2, 3, so that the ticket will then be attached to the clip, and then the clip can, as aforesaid, be attached to the top edge of the back 12 of the book or other article with which the clip is to be used, by merely inserting the said edge between the tongue 8 and" the back-10f the clip and pushingthe clip home as in Fig. 3.

The accompanying drawings illustrate what I consider to be the best way of carrying my invention into practice, but it is to be understood that my invention is not lim' ited to the precise outline form of the clip shown, as it will be evident that this can be modified to some extent without departing from the nature of my invention.

What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A tag-holding clip formed from a shee metal blank having a U-shaped slit therein to form a tongue. said tongue-being bent rearwardly and then downwardly, whereby a portion of the article to which the clip is spring secured may be inserted between the tongue name to ihis spooificufion in the presence of two SHbSCIllHIlQ wltncsses.
