To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JOHN A. VEITZEL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fall Brook, in the county of San Diego and State of California, have invented a new and use ful Tag-I'Iolder, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to atag holder par ticularly intmded and adapted for holding the price mark tags for merchandise, the'tag holder being, for example, adapted to be placed on the shelves holding the merchandiseand to hold the tag exposed to the view at the front of the shelves.
The main object of the present invention is to provide a tag holder of simple and cheap construction adapted to hold the tag or price card in such manner as to expose the same to View and to enable ready sub stitution or replacement of the card or tag.
Another objectof the invent-ion is to provide a tag holder which will protect the tag or card from dust while exposing the same to View.
Other objects of the invention will appear hereinafter.
The accompanying drawingsillustrate the invention, and referring thereto:
Figure 1 is a perspective View of a portion of a shelf with the tag holder in place thereon.- Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the tag holder in process of manufacture, the members thereof being in separated position. Fig. 3 is a perspective View of the card or tag. Fig. 4 is a section on line na -w Fig. 1, showing the tag holder with I g drawn.
the card therein. Fig. 5 is a view similar topFig. at, showing the card partly with- Fig. 6 is a-horizontal section on line .r-m in Fig. 4.
Thetag holder comprises a flat body 1 formed of suitable thin malleable material,
for example, sheet metal, and having a depending lip or flange 2 of the same wldth as the flat. body at its forward end, said 11p or flange entending at right angles to said body, and a transparent front plate 3 secured on said lip and adapted to hold the.
tag, indicated at 4, in position between said front plate and said body.
The front plate 3 may consist of sheet celluloid or similar transparent material capable of being folded and said plate is folded inwardly at its ends, as indicated at 5, to extend around. and back of the ends of the lip or flange 2 beneath the flatbody 1 and Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed April 5,
Patented July 30, 1911. Serial No. 619,189. I r
.' said lip or flange 2 is provided at its lower edge with prongs or projections 6 adapted to be bent up under the front plate 3 to re tain the same in place, as indicated in Figs. 1, 4 and 5.. The celluloid frontplate 3 has more or less elasticity enabling it to yieldingly hold itself close to the lip '01 flange 2 by engagement with the ends of said lip or flange, leaving, however, sutlicient space between said front plate and lip for insertion are preferably bent in the form of a roll or inbent curve, so as to engage with the back data. The lip or flange 2 is formed witlran opening or perforation 8 of suflicient size to enable the tip of a-finger to be inserted through said opening into engagementv with card upwardly outof the pocket between the front plate and the lip or flange.
The device is assembled as follows: The body 1 having been formed with a depending lip or flange 2, having an opening or hole 8 and projections 6, said projections extending in the plane of the flange, the transparent front plate 3 is pushed up onto said flange and engages by its folded end portions 5 with the ends of the flange 2 and when the front plate has been pushed directly in front. of the flange, as shown in 4, the prongs G are bent up, as shown in said figure, to engage beneath said front plate and hold the same in position. fhen of the flange 2. Said card or tag 4 may be of cardboard and provided with marks or indications for the prices or other desired of the card 4. To insure this spring action I of the front plate, the end portions 5 thereof.
the back of the card 4 for pushing the said the front plate 3 is in position thefolded--- end portions eXtend beneath the flat bodyso as to limit its upward movement when the tag is removed. The card 4 may then be inserted and the tag holder placed on the shelf, as indicated in Fig. 1. If it is desired to'change the card at any time, the ta holder is withdrawn from the shelf, the tip of the finger inserted through the opening 8 and brought into contact with the card or tag and pushed upwardly so as to, eject the tag from the holder, whereupon a new card may be inserted.
\Vhen the card is placed in the space between the front plate and the flange 2, it
topics of this patent may be obtained or plate at we lower edge thereof so as to hold said front plate from springing outwardly and to furnish a support for the front plate when the pressure is brought upon the card by the insertion of the finger through the opening 8 in the ejection of the card.
What I claim is:
A tag holder comprlsing a thin flat body formed in one piece with a flange bent at right angles thereto, having a finger tip opening and upturned front prongs, at its lower edge, providing tag supporting hooks,
and a resilient transparent front plate suported on the prongs and having inwardly olded end portions embracing the ends of the flange beneath the body so as to limit the upward movement of the front plate when the tag is removed; the inbent edges or "the folded end portions bearing yieldingly against the rear side of the flange so as to press and hold the tag firmly between theflange and the front plate while permitting the ready removal of the tag. In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand at Fall Brook, California, this 14th day of March, 1911. 4
