AMOROUS O. JONES, OF FLINT, MICHIGAN.
KEY-RING ATTACH M ENT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 314,028, dated March 17, 1885.
Application led January 2, 1885.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, AMoRoUs O. JONES, of Flint, in the cou'nty of Genesee and State of Michigan, have invented new and useful Iniprovements in Key-Rng Attachments; and I do hereby declare that the following 'is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part ot' this specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in attachments to keyrings or rings adapted to allow keys to be detachably secured thereto.
It frequently happens that persons in travcling from place'to place lose their bunch of keys, and are put to great inconvenience andA sometimes to pecuniary loss thereby. Many` devices are employed to lead to the return of the keys by the finder-such as a little plate with the owners name and address stamped or engraved thereon and attached to the ring; but, of course, this becomes comparatively valueless if the owner changes his address Without having such change made on his plate, and this in most instances he neglects to do.
The object of this invention is to provide a device so constructed that the finder may be notified of the name and address 0f the owner, with directions for forwarding the lost keys, and so arranged that the owner can change his address by the simple use of his pencil, when necessary, as more fully hereinafter described.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved key-ring attachment. Fig. 2 shows the parts thereof in section.
In the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, A represents a small cylinder, closed at one end and open at the other. The closed end has a narrow slot out through for the purposes hereinafter explained. A plug, B, is fitted into the open end of the cylinder, and to the inner end of this plug is secured the wire O, bent back upon itself so as to form a loop, a, and with the (No model.)
Wound around the whole wire, and paper enough may be so wound that, when inserted within the cylindenit will iill the same. Then the plug and wire are inserted in the cylinder, the loop ofthe wire will pass through the slot in the closed end ot the cylinder, and through this projecting loop the key-ring is passed, thereby not only locking the parts together, but also att-aching` the bunch of keys on the ring to the cylinder, which latter may have stamped or engraved thereon the words open me, or other words of similar import. Upon the paper thus inclosed the owner will write his name, address, and directions to the finder how to return the lost keys to the owner, and even theoffer of a reward for so doing, or any other pertinent matter.
This device should be made of metal and as ornamental as may be desired, even handsome enough to be worn as a watch-charm.
As amattachment to shoppingbags, purses, tc., it will be found equally valuable.
What I claim as my invention is- 1. In a device for the purpose described, the combination, wit-h the cylinder A, of the plug having secured thereto two parallel wires formed of one piece and terminating in a loop, for the double purpose of holding blank paper and affording means for securing t-he key ring thereto, substantially as described.
2. The combination of the cylinder A and the plug B, carrying the wire O, with a keyring, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
AMOROUS O. JONES.
