T all whom. it may concern Be it known that I, JOSEPH A. HAMMER, a. citizen of the United States, residing at (lalesville, in the county of Trempealeau and State of lVisconsin, have invented new and useful Improvements in Hangers, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to hangers or supports for wall calendars or like articles, the object of the invention being to provide a hanger or support forming a permanent fixture of the calendar, whereby such article may be conveniently supported from a wall or like surface.

A further object of the invention is to provide a hanger or support which will permit of the calendar being rolled, packed or shipped without interference therefrom, which is simple and inexpensive in construction and may be applied to the calendar when the latter is in process of formation, and which embodies a pin whereby the calendar may be directly fastened to a wall or suspended from a fastening member or driven into the wall.

The invention consists of the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts herein fully described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawing in which Figure 1 is a view of a calendar embodying my invention. Fig. '3 is a sectional view on an enlarged scale through the sheet clamping strip of the calendar and showing the hanger in normal position. Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. 2 showing the pin arranged for direct engagement with a wall to support the calendar therefrom. Fig. 'l is a plan view of the blank from which the hanger strip is made.

Referring to the drawing, 1 designates a calendar of the character usually hung upon a wall, the same comprising a single sheet or a series of sheets bound at their upper edge by a clamping strip 2-. This strip, as shown in the present instance, comprises a piece of sheet metal folded to engage the upper edges of the sheet, which are folded the sheets are firmly and securely bound together.

member 3, consisting of a thin strip of brass or other bendable or malleable metal. The lower end l of this strip is inserted between the last sheet of the tablet and the adjacent fold of the binder strip 2, whereby the strip is permanently fastened in place.

The upper end of the strip is provided with a portion 5, rolled into tubular form and receiving the stem 6 of a fastening device. This fastening device is in the form of a pin, the stem 6 of which is provided with a pointed end 7 and a hook-shaped end 8, forming a combined head or finger piece and suspending element. As shown in Fig. l, the tubular portion 5 is formed partially from an offset projecting laterally from one side of the upper end of the blank from which the strip 3 is made. The stem 6 is formed with shoulders or stop members 9 by which it is held from endwise movement in the sleeve or tubular portion 5.

By reference to Figs. 1 and 2 it will be seen that normally the pin may be disposed vertically and substantially in the plane of the body of the calendar, so that the calendar may be rolled, stored away in a fiat condition, or packed or shipped with other pads without interference from the hanger, and without liability of in uring the latter. in this position, the hooked end of the pin provides a means whereby the hanger may be engaged with a nail or other support to hang the calendar upon a wall. By reference to Fig. 3, it will be seen that by bending the strip so as to dispose the sleeve and pin at right angles to the calendar, the pin may be forced into a wall or other support to hang the calendar without the aid of any other supporting means. A convenient and always ready hanger is thus provided for use when a nail or other support is not at hand.
