' Speeification'of Letters Patent.
i To all whom it may concern:
Be it knownthat'I, GnoRGnM. BrLLs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bat-.
tle Creek, in the county'ofnCalhoun State of .Michigan, haveinvented certain new and useful Improvements in Fasteners, of which the following is a specificat on,
reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This inventlon relates to an improved fastener,'and an objectgof the invention is to provide a verysimple, efficient and cheaply-made fastener, particularly adapted as a towel'hanger and for holding curtains,
draperies and various similar articles on display in store windows. It is obvious-that handkerchiefs, flags and also decorations may be readily suspended on the wall, wires orcords. f
Another object of the invention is the pro vision of a fastener or hanger which may be sold at a reasonable profit, owing to its in-. expensive construction, and also the device may be employed for suspending cards and other articles on display. v
Still another object is to provide a fastener1or hanger-comprising two jaws pivotallyunited', movable flatwise adjacent each other and in correspondingplanes, one constituting a main jaw having an oifset portion with teeth to be engagedby the fold of the drapery, handkerchief, cards and the.
' like, sothat the other or clamping jaw may pass over the article to be suspended to hold the same in place, in combination with yieldable means carried by the main jaw to overlie the auxiliary or clamping jaw to hold the same in position. The auxiliary or clamping jaw has a similar. flange to overlie the main or base jaw, thereby additionally hold-" ing the two jawsin closed position.
While the design and construction at present illustrated and set forth is deemed preferable, it is obvious that as a resultof: a reduction of the invention to a more practical form forcommercial purposes, the invention may be susceptible to changes,- and the right to these changes is claimed, provided they are comprehended within thescope of what is claimed.-
The invention comprises further features and combination of parts, as will be hereinafter set forth, shown in'the' drawings and claimed.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a'view .of the improved and showing the same holding a curtain, for other drapery,-
Fig. 2 is a view in perspective showingthe hanger or fastener suspending a. towel orthe like from ahook, v i Fig. 8. is a view'showing the two jaws Y open Y F g. 4 is a longitudinal sectional Fig. 5, isa cross sectional view.
Referring tov these drawings, .1

hfastener or hanger. mounted upon a wire designates i the mam aw, which s provided with an offset bent portion 2 rectangularin cross sec folded upon'itself to'forrn ahead 10.; The
auxiliary clamping jawhas oneedge providedwith a-clampin-g flange 11 bent from} 7 the auxiliary jaw asat 12. This clamping flange 11 has its terminal edge folded to form abead 13. It will be noted that these clamping flanges overlie opposite faces of theirrespective jaws so that when the jaws flatwlse engage thev same being moved in corresponding parallel planes will overlie engagement, thereby holding the drapery or other article clamped in engagement with the teeth of the main jaw, a fold of the.
drapery being adapted to engage the offset angular portion 2 of the main jaw. f The two jaws have corresponding registering openings 14 correspondmg n shape as shown and in many. instances are adapted to engage a headed'portion as shown the drawing so as to suspend a towel or other of the openings l landthen the shank of the headed member will engage thenarrow parts of the opening, thereby not only suspending I the fastener and hanger but also holding the,
.110 'ble chance of. opening the jaws unless the I T hanger is detached from the headed member,
two jaws together softhat there is no possi- 1 theopposi'te jaws and hold themin clamping i When suspending a drapery or other article on display from a horizontal wire, cord or the like, the wire or cord is placed' between i one of the clamping flanges and the body of its jaw, so that when the other jaw is caused to engage the clamping flange, the fastener or hanger will be suspended securely on the,
wire or cord. t V
The invention having been set forth, what is claimed asinew and useful is 1. A fastener of the kind'set forth comprising a main jaw and an auxiliary jaw i pivotally united, whereby both jaws may move fiatwi'se and in corresponding parallel planes when closed, the main j aw having an offset part provided with fabric engaging means ,-between which and the auxiliaryjaw a piece, of drapery or the like may engage, said jaws having means overlying the oppo I 20' site jaw to hold the two jaws together.
2-. ,A fastener of the kind set forth, comprising a main jaw and an auxiliary jaw pivotally united, whereby :both jaws may move flat'wise and in COII'GSPOIlCllDg parallel planes when closed, the main jaw having an offset part provided with fabric engaging means, between which and the auxiliaryjaw a piece of drapery or the like may engage,
said jaws having corresponding registering openmgs to receive a headed member to hold I the two-jaws together-Q a A fastener of the kind set forth 66inprising a main jaw and an auxiliary jaw pivotally united, whereby both jaws may move flatwise and in corresponding parallel planes when closed, the main jaw having an I a v offset .part provided with fabric engaging means, between which and the auxiliary jaw a piece of drapery or the like may engage,-
said' jaws having means overlying the 0pposite jaw toholdthe two jaws together, said jaws having corresponding registering openings to receive a headed member to hold the two jaws together.
4. In a device as set forth, the combina- 7 tion with a main jaw having a fabric engaging-means at one end, auxiliary-jaw pivotally mounted on the main jawt'o move 'flatwise adjacent thereto andin a plane parallel therewith and adapted :to overlie the fabric clamping means to hold anarticle on display in engagement with sa'id means,
the two .j-aws having corresponding-register ing openings'to be engaged by a'- 'headed member to hold the jaws together and to suspend the article from' a'he'aded member;
5. In a device as set-forth, a main jaw having fabric clamping means at one end,
in position, one of said clamping means adaptedto engage a supportlng w re to suspend'the two jaws. I
In testimony whereof hereunto afiix my signature.
