A. SCHOCHETa FASTEN'ER AND HANGER. APPLICATION man MAv 4, 1,918.
mama Feb. 15, 1921n UNITED sraras ABRAHAM scrroonn'r, or NEW YORK, 4ir. Y.
FASTENER AND HANGER.
Application filed May 4, 1918.
To all 'whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, ABRAHAM Sermon-ET, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at New York city, in the county ci New York and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Fasteners and Hangers, of which the iollowing is a specification.
This invention relates to pocket books and the like and particularly to those wherein are combined normally concealed or inclosed mirrors, toilet accessories and the like which are adapted to be exposed at times at the convenience of the user.
An object of the invention is to combine with a fastener for holding the closing Hap of the pocket book or the like closed. means whereby the flap can be expeditiously opened and closed when desired without unduly straining` the flap and with an elimination of certain possibility of accidentally tearing the flap during the mentioned operation of opening and closing the same; the said means also serving to enable the user to suspend the pocket book from a suitable support and maintain an open condition thereof in order that the mirror or toilet articles may be conveniently placed on display before the user.
With the above and other objects in view which will appear as thek nature of the invention is better understood7 the same consists in the improved construction and novel arrangements of parts which will hereinafter be fully described and particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, has been illustrated, a single and preferred Jform of the invention, it being, however, understood that no limitations are necessarily made to the precise structural details therein exhibited, but that changes, alterations and modifications within the scono ot the claim mav be resorted to when desired.
Figure 1 is a front view of the pocket book showing the closing flap thereof opened and suspended from a support.
Fig. 2 is a similar view with the hap closed.
Fig. 3 is a section taken on line 33, of Fig. 2.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 15, 1921.
Serial No. 232,636.
The pocket book 5 as herein conventionally illustrated is provided with a closing flap 6, the same being preferably extended from one of the side walls oi said pocket bookwhereby when arranged in an opened position as shown in Fig. l, it will lie in the same vertical plane with said wall. It is customary to equip pocket books, vanity cases and the like with various toilet 60 articles, mirrors or similar accessories and arrange the same so that they may be displayed before the user when the closing flap is opened.. In this instance, a mirror 7 is secured in any suitable well-known 65 manner to the inner face of the closing flap so that when the latter is in the position shown in Fig. 1, the mirror can be readilv placed before the user. T he wall 8i of the pocket book is provided with a resilient socket 9. The closing Hap 6 is provided with a rigid plate 10 which may be of any suitable configuration. I prefer that it be in the form of an oval as shown in Fig. 2. This plate is extended in overlapping engagement against the flap 6 near the free edefe thereof and at the center. It is provided with a stud 11 which is extended through the flap 6 and against the inner tace of said liap is washer 12, the'same 80 being associated with the stud and fixed thereto. From this washer is extended a head 13 which is adapted to engage in the socket 9 when the dan 6 is closed. The said plate 10 is extended at 14 below the S5 free edge of the iiap 6 and it is preferably curved in an outward direction at l5 in order that the finger ot the operator can be placed thereunder and the plate canted when releasing the head 13 from its co- 90 acting socket member 9. The said extension 14 is provided with an opening 16 which is adapted to be received by a suitable wall hook 17 as shown in Fig. 1. I. of course, do not wish to limit myself to the application of the invention to pocket books, it beinnr understood that it may be used in connection with travelers sample cases or the like. so that the article contained therein can he Quickly placed on display as desired.
resilient `socket carried by the body of the pocketbook, a plate carried by the ap of the pocketbook and having a portion ex-V tending beyond the flap, said extended por- 5 tion being provided with an opening and curved outwardly, a stud projecting from the plate and' passing through the Hep, a
washer Carried bythe stud and clamping the Hap between itself and the plate, an extension on the stud extending beyond the 10 washer and an enlarged head on said eX- tension for engaging the socket.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
Y ABRAHAM SCHOCHET.
