GARMENT HANGER Filed Oct. 1, 1931 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 Inventor Patented Aug. 16, 1932 UNITED STATES;
BILLIE FULLER, OF MADISON, SOUTH DAKOTA GARMENT HANGER Application filed October 1, 1931. Serial No. 566,347.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in garment hangers, and the primary object of the invention 1s to provide a hanger especially adapted for use with mens trousers.
Briefly, the invention consists in the provision of a hanger having two identical members each of which is insertable in a leg of .the trouser and expansible for retaining the trouser in a creased condition.
Other objects and advantages of the invention, together with the nature of the invention will be best understood from a study of the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein:
, Figure 1 is a side elevational View of the hanger, the same being shown as employed for suspending trousers therefrom.
Fi the hanger in a folded condition.
. Figure 3 is a top plan view of the hanger with the same inan unfolded or fully extended position.
o In the preferred embodiment of the invention, and as shown in the drawings, the hanger consists of a plate 5 equipped with a suspension book 6. The plate 5 is rolled upon itself adjacent its opposite longitudinal edges or otherwise formed to provide a pair of parallel sleeves 7. Two similar members designated 8 and 9 respectively are provided, and each of these members is of general U- material.
, Each of said members 8, 9 at the bight or closed end thereof has the connecting portion 10 extending through a sleeve 7 for pivotally connecting the member with the plate .5. Opposed portions 11 are curved longitudinally, and adjacent opposite ends reversely curved as at 12 and 13. The reversely curved end 13 of each portion 11 is coiled about itself as at 14, the coil forming as it were a spring connection between the part 10 and a side member 11 for normally urging the member outwardly. The reversely curved portion 13 merges into an arm or extension 15' extending laterally and outwardly and terminating in a gure 2 is an end elevatiollal View Of received between opposed sides 'of the trouser leg at the front and rear creases thereof.
shape, being formed of wire or other suitable scope of'the appended claims.
downwardly extending fiattened'projection 16 provided on its outer longitudinal face with a rou hened surface 17. The surface 17 may be ormed by corrugating the member 16, or otherwise formed to provide projections which are suitable for engaging the cloth of the trouser without damaging it.
In actual practice, each of the members 8 and 9 is passed into one leg of the trouser at the cuff end thereof as shown in Figure 1. In inserting a member 8 or 9 in a leg of the trouser, the parts 13 of the sides 11 are en- ,gaged with the thumb and forefinger and urged inwardly toward one another for contracting the U-shaped member to facilitate insertion thereof into the trouser leg. Pressure is then removed from the portion 14, permitting the sides 11 to spring outwardly from one another and the extensions 16 are Thus the presser is stretched sufficiently to retain the trouser extended throughout its length which serves to retain the crease in thetrousers at the front and rear thereof while the same is suspended from the hanger. The surfaces 17 engaging the adjacent portion of the trouser present the latter from slipping downwardly because of the weight thereof. To remove the trouser from the hanger, it is only necessary to first contract the members 8 and 9 and then draw the same outwardly from the legs of the trouser.
'Even though I have herein shown and described the preferred embodiment of the invention, it is to be understood that the same is susceptible of further changes, modifications and improvements coming within the Having thus described my invention, what 96 I claim as new is .1. In a garment hanger, a plate provided with a pair of parallel sleeves, a pair of U- shaped members each of which at its closed end. is rotatably engaged with one of said sleeves, each of said U-shaped members having opposed portions thereof arcuate intermediate its ends and reversely curved adj acent its ends.
2. In a garment hanger, a pair of U-shaped members pivotally connected together adjacent the closed ends thereof, each of said U- Shaped members having opposed longitudinally curved portions reversely curved adjacent the open and closed ends of the U and at the closed end being coiled While at the open end of the U merging into a laterally directed extension having an angularly disposed toothed end.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
TILLIE FULLER.
