'0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JOHN M. G. S'roLK, a citizen of the United States,-residing at Ensley, in the county of J eiferson and State of Alabama, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Boxes, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to receptacles and more particularly to boxes having for its primary object to provide a plurality of sections which are relatively adjustable in order to facilitate the dispensing of the contents.

A further object is to provide a device, of tliischaracter comprising but a few simple parts which are readily associated for bringing about the desired result.

Uther objectsas, well as thenature, characteristic features and scope of my inventio n will be more readily understood from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the claims forming a part of this specification. v

prises a lower section 6 and an upper section 7, each of said sections being preferably of a cylindrical configuration, the lower of which has a girth less than that of the section 7 in order to allow for the telescoping of the section 6 within the section 7. The lower edge of the section 6 is preferably extended slightly outwardly as indicated at 8 and inwardly at right-angles to the .body as indicated at 9 whereby to provide an annular ring or supporting member withwhich is engaged a bottom 10, said bottom snugly engaging in the offset portion 8 of the section 6 and being held therein from movement. I A l y The structure as disclosed has several advantages over; boxes, appropriated for similar uses, such as tobacco. boxes, in that the magnitude of the box may be reduced as' the contents diminishes. This is accomplished, in a practical way, by having the lower section 6 telescoped within the. upper section 7 and by the frictional engagement of the beads 11 and .12 with the faces of the com-. 'plemental sections.

That portion of the section 6 above the bead 11 and that portion of section 7 below the bead 12 prevents any material disali-nement of the two sections,

' which are normally co-axial, by coming in contact with the complemental sections should a force be applied to the sections which might cause them to become distorted. The cover 13 preferably telescopes the section 7, and, as shown in the drawing, the section 6 is preferably inheight greater than the section 7, so that, even when the material is disposed wholly within section 6, the covers 13 may be removed by merely,

moving one section relative to the other to reduce the magnitude of the box. If the contents of the box extend above the upper marginal edge of section 6, the cover is removed by the telescoping action, through its engagement with the contents. If the contents of the box is below the upper marginal edge of section 6, then this edge engages the under side of the cover and forces it from section 7 as one section is moved relative to the other as hereinbefore described.

1. A receptacle comprising a lower section having a bottom and an upper section,

the lower section being in height greater than the upper section and the former telescoping within the. latter; and, a removable cover for said upper section positioned to be removed by engagement of the upper marginal edge of said lower section therewith upon sliding-one section relative to-the set forth.'

In a receptacle of the character described, the combination ofa lower section having a bottom; an up er section, the lower section telescoping within said upper section; a horizonta bead carried by said lower section at its outer face, spaced from the upper marginal edge to frictionally engage the internal periphery of said u per section; and a horizontal bead carrie by said upper section at its inner face, to frictionally engage the external periphery of said lower section below said first mentioned bead, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
