'BED-COVER AND AUTOMOBILE-ROBE HOLDER.
Application mea my 11., 191s. serial no. .'z'zageoa` To all whom it may concern.'
Be it lmown that I, VARREN LEWIS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Coutolenc, in the county of Butte and State of.
similar coverings, and as its principal object contemplates the provision of a device of this character which, when attached to the bed clothes or covering, may be stretched to prevent them from being thrown `aside, or pushed off, as a result of the restive movements of the user while asleep.
A further and morespeciic object is to provide device which will not require any particular fastening devices for its applicaf tion to the covering, and Will not impair the value of the article to which it is ap plied, as is usually the result of the em- Fployment of safety pins, toothed clamps, and
the like.
The above and additional objects are accomplished by such means as are illustrated in the accompanying drawings, described in the following specification and then more particularly pointed out in the claims which appended hereto and form a part of this application. j
.lVith reference to the drawings, wherein I have illustratedthe preferred embodiment of my invention as it is reduced lto practice, and throughout the severalviews of which similar reference numerals designate corresponding parts: Figure 1 is a transverse section taken through a be/d, illustrating the bed clothes holder in assembled position; Fig. 2 is a top plan view. I
Proceeding now to the description of the drawings, the numerals 1 and 2 designate the side boards of a'bed, while the numeral 3 designates the bedclothing.
The preferred embodiment of this invention consists essentially in an elastic strap 4, provided with an adjusting buckle 5, a. snap hook 6, and attaching rings 7, 8 and 9. The adjusting buckle 5 is of the usual type and is designed to permit the adjustment of the length of the strap. The snap hook fis also of vthe common type, andy is semned to the' 1ooped=`portion 10 'formedby looping one-terminal of' tlre'strap to permit the apA plication ofthe member 5, The other terminal ofhthc strap is looped, as' at. 11, and
Patented sept. .1, -1914..,
in this loop aresecured the rings 8- and`9,
the ring 8 being adapted for coperation with the snap hook 6, and the ring 9 being `designed to receive acord or similar fasten-` ing device 12, which is tied around the side .board 1 of the bed. The ring 7 is secured by a similar cord 13'totl1e side board 2.
In practice the rings 7 and 9-are secured to the side boards by the cords 12 and 13, and the bed covering is placed on the lower strand of the strap'lt. The upper strand of the strap 4, which' carries the snap'hook 6, is then placed on top lof the bed covering and is connected to the ring 8. By manipulation` of the member 5, the gripping engage ment .exerted by the upperl and lower strands of the strap 4 upon the covering 3 may be varied, as desired.
As regards the particular advantages re` sultant from the novel form 'of structure employed in this invention, it is to be noted that the covers are in no way marred in appearance, or impaired as regards their value, by any permanent incision or the like, such as is usually made by safety pins, toothed clamps, and similar fastening devices which are often employed in securing the bed clothing against displacement. It is also tobe observed that by employing an elastic strap the restive 'movements of the sleeper are not resisted to such a-nextent as `would render sleep uncomfortable.
In reduction to practice, I have found that the form of vmy invention, illustrated in the drawings and referred to in the above description, as the preferred embodiment, is the most eflicient and practical; yet, realizing that the conditions concurrent with the adoption of my device will necessarily vary, I desire to emphasize the fact that various minor changes in details of construction, proportion, and arrangement of parts may be resorted to, when required, without sacriicing any of the advantages of myl invention, as defined in the appended claims.
What is claimed is;
`1. A holder for covering comprising an elastic strap adapted to surround the covering, a ring carried intermediate the end of the strap, a pair of rings secured to one of elastic strap ada ering, a, ring carrled intermediate Ithe end of' the strap, a flexible tie cord carried by said.
ring, a pair of rings secured to one of the ends of the strap, a snap hook, the other end of said stra being loolied through the snap hook, an adlusting buc 1e on said strap adpted to surround the cov-V jacent the last named end thereof and secured to the last named end and a flexible tie cord carried by one of last'named rings,
' .the other of `said last named rings being adapted fo'engagement with the snap hook. In testimony whereof I aiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
