PATENT FFIC.
RICHARD E. FRANCE, OF GREENSBORO, NORTH CAROLINA.
BEDCLOTHES-FASTENEHM SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 777,016, dated December 6, 1904.
Application filed October 20, 1902. Serial No. 127,984. (No model.)
To a whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, RICHARD E. FRANCE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Greensboro, in the county of Guilford and State of North Carolina, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bedclothes-Fasteners; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to appliances for securing bedclothes to bedsteads, cribs, cradles, and the like, and has for its object to provide an improved device which may be readily attaehed to or detached from the bed to which it is applied for the purpose of holding the coverings firmly thereon, and thereby prevent the accidental displacement of the same.
The invention consistsof a strap or suitable piece of Webbing sewed or otherwise secured to the bed-covering and having depending therefrom short loops carrying fastening devices, said loops being suitably spaced apart upon the strap and combined with the eyes or rings secured to the bedstead and arranged in such positions as will admit of the ready connection and disconnection of the fastening devices therewith.
In the drawings, Figure 1 represents a perspective view of a portion of an iron bedstead, showing my invention applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of a portion of a wooden bedstead, showing my invention as applied thereto. Fig. 3 is an enlarged side elevation of my invention as used with iron bedsteads, and Fig. 4. is a similar View of the improved fastening used in connection With wooden bedsteads.
Referring to the drawings, 1 denotes a strap Depending from each loop 3 is a fastening device L of any well-known description, but preferably in the form of snap hooks, as shown. These hooks are adapted to hook into eyes 5, that are attached to the bedstead.
In using my improved appliance with Wooden bedsteads the eyes 5 are screwed into the footboard of the bedstead near the bottom thereof and upon the inner side. These screw eyes 5 are arranged along the footboard in such positions as will permit of the corresponding snap-hooks a being connected thereto, and thus afford a connection between the bed covering and the bedstead which shall, be suflieient to hold the said covering securely in place upon the bed, but at the same time allow for the ready disconnection of the covering therefrom when desired.
In using my invention with iron bedsteads the eyes 5 are connected to bands 6, which have suitable buckles 7 for the purpose of securing the said bands to the framework of the bed or spring when it is desired to secure the covering in place upon the bedstead.
It is apparent that in carrying out my invention various modifications in the construction herein shown and described may be made, and I would therefore have it understood that I do not limit myself to the precise details herein illustrated, but hold myself at liberty to make such changes and alterations as fairly fall within the spirit and scope of my invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure, is
In a bedclothes-fastener, a strap secured across the foot of the bedclothing and having a plurality of fastening devices depending therefrom lengthwise the bcdclothing at suitable intervals throughout its length, said fastening devices being adapted to be attached to the footboard structure at points intermediate the bedposts.
In testimony whereof I allix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
RICHARD E. FRANCE.
